I got to see a bit of the presidential spiel yesterday and I noticed that Chavez has lost composure; his normal coherent-self wasn’t there; the rhythm and pitch of his voice have abandoned him; he's absolutely convinced that the hour of his rendezvous with history has finally arrived in the form of an open conflict; be it with Colombia or the USA.

Don't worry about a thing -- Jimmy Carter says Chavez is a good guy.

"Too bad someone can't take him out !"

Someone could, but it would be better if they were Venezuelan.

Somebody will. I suspect ol' Hugo's boys are prolly trying to figure out how best to do it. Even they can tell he's a train wreck waiting to happen.

Yeah, Jimmy Carter was there to make sure Chavez stole the election, the last election Venezuela will have while Chavez breaths Venezuelan air.

Thanks for posting, and a belated welcome to FR..I've bookmarked your site, and will check in when Ican..buit if you post more on FR, kindly ping me. One question, if I may. I'd say that I've gotten most of my information on what's happening in Venezuela from the "Americas" column in the Wall Street Jurnal by Mary Anastasia O'Grady...I assume you're familar with her commentary. I'd be interested in your take on her observations...thanks

You know, that's a really good question. I'm not sure. Maybe we could get Castro to do that.

I have been monitoring international media, on a daily basis, for the last 2 and a half years. Mary O'Grady's latest re the inclusion of Hugo Chavez in the list of terrorism sponsors is the closest approximation to reality that I have read from a foreigner. Her insight is simply superb, I guess that's why she's so despised by NYT lovers...

One thing I don't quite understand...doesn't Colombia have its hands full with FARC? Why would they take this kind of 'bait' from Chavez? I haven't kept as a close a watch on the goings-on down there as I normally have, but it does sound like Hugo is going off his rocker.

chavez is afraid of Condi. She's no Powell. His playing footsy with the chicoms, al queda, and russia in our back yard sealed his fate.
