Demonstration Against Catholic Church in Birkenau 21:45 Jan 25, '05 / 15 Shevat 5765
(IsraelNN.com) A delegation from Amcha the Coalition for Jewish Concerns, will be demonstrating tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27th, at the site of the Auschwitz death camp in Poland.
The action at Auschwitz comes on the eve of the 60th anniversary commemoration of the death camps liberation from the Nazis, which is drawing heads of state and foreign ministers, including United States Vice-President Dick Cheney and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The demonstrators at Auschwitz will be at the Catholic church in Birkenau, Auschwitz killing grounds, where over a million Jews were murdered. The church had been the SS commandants headquarters at Birkenau.
The demonstrators charge that the presence of the church at Birkenau is totally inappropriate since one million Jews were murdered there by the Nazis because they were Jews. We demand that the church decamp the building immediately. The presence of the church only perpetuates the strong feeling that the Catholic church is making a deliberate effort to Christianize sites and symbols of the Holocaust. The Polish government, which administers the Auschwitz site, has the power to remove the church.
Rabbi David Kalb, National Vice President of Amcha the Coalition for Jewish Concerns, stated that it is completely inappropriate to have a church at the site of the largest Jewish cemetery in the world. We do not agree with the construction of any religious house of worship in Birkenau the camp must be left how it was, so people can really understand what happened.
This demonstration is coordinated by the US-based Amcha the Coalition for Jewish Concerns, whose national president is Rabbi Avi Weiss.
You might ask yourself why so many Jews lived in Poland.
You might ask yourself why so many camps were in GERMANY.
You might ask yourself why this same rabi cant seem to find a regular synagogue so he wont have to demagogue.
"You might remind yourself that the Warsaw Ghetto was actually in Poland, believe it or not."
What do you think about it Jackson ?
But don't you even try to tell me that the Warsaw Ghetto was actually in Warsaw, because 300.000 Jews lived there.
I will have to report abuse If you do it !
Essentially, they weren't about to put the ghetto in Paris and ruin the neighborhood.
You might ask yourself why Poland (prior to the War of the Holocaust) was referred to as Jewish paradise.
Your tag line is hoot.
"You might remind yourself that the Warsaw Ghetto was actually in Poland"
Because Warsaw was Polish capital ?
Because it's inhabitants were fenced in and treated like animals.....before the war.
Interesting. Did you live there ?
