Shroud of Turin: Old as Jesus?
THE NEW YORK TIMES ^ | January 27, 2005 | NA

Posted on 01/26/2005 10:37:01 PM PST by neverdem

The Shroud of Turin is much older than the medieval date that modern science has affixed to it and could be old enough to have been the burial wrapping of Jesus, a new analysis concludes.

Since 1988, most scientists have confidently concluded that it was the work of a medieval artist, because carbon dating had placed the production of the fabric between 1260 and 1390.

In an article this month in the journal Thermochimica Acta, Dr. Raymond N. Rogers, a chemist retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory, said the carbon dating test was valid but that the piece tested was about the size of a postage stamp and came from a portion that had been patched.

"We're darned sure that part of the cloth was not original Shroud of Turin cloth," he said, adding that threads from the main part of the shroud were pure linen, which is spun from flax.

The threads in the patched portion contained cotton as well and had been dyed to match.

From other tests, he estimated that the shroud was between 1,300 and 3,000 years old.

I just spoke with Barrie Schwortz. He will be appearing on Bill O'Reilly tonight to discuss the Shroud of Turin.

True,.....my IQ now is far below 20/20......with many, many 'missing files'.....but, on the other hand....

.....I never really 'knew' very much about anything.....

......but,.....considering today's societies,....there really is not much to 'know'.....

.....except,........

Jesus is Eternal!

There NEVER was a time when Jesus-the SON was NOT!

Romans Chapter 10

"Bacteria???? that's a new one. Right...Bacteria made that image...right."

Yeah....so where are all of those OTHER examples of this kind of "image-making" - more scientific blind faith.

Personally, its obvious to me that the image was created by the release of some kind of power (that we might understand as radiation) as the Father breathed life back into His Son.

Who was? Jesus? How could Jesus have been with the Father at the beginning, before man had even been created?

Is Jesus a man or not?

Your theology makes God a fraudulent illusionist. Your theology makes the creation of man a lie. Your theology reduces the Incarnation and Crucifixion and Resurrection to cheap tricks.

Look at the Gospel of John, first chapter.

Jesus (2nd person in the Trinity) is co eternal with the father.

If you are a trinitarian Christian, one that subscribes to the Athanasus Creed, you believe that. To deny that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are co eternal with the Father, is a form of Modalism.

"Then what about the mountain of evidence that points to the Shroud's authenticity? Do you just ignore that?

It seems more reasonable to me to believe that the one countervailing piece of evidence is somehow erroneous."

Personally I tend to think the Shroud is the real thing, however, whether it is or isn't does not change the status of my belief.

Do you really expect the scoffers of Christ to repent, if "science" declares it to be the real deal. Will the Catholic Church change it stance about the old Testament not being history but a bunch of allegory, I won't be holding my breath.

The claims made in JOhn 1 are expressed precisely, and in fact state precisely the opposite of what you want them to say. John 1,1-3 do not talk about Jesus; they talk about the "Logos," which is the pre-existent reality that has the same divine nature as "the God" (ho Theos = God the Father) and that existed from all eternity in eternal directedness and relationality to "the God." Then, in JOhn 1,14, "logos sarx egeneto," that is, the pre-existent Logos became flesh, i.e., became a human being. And at that moment, Jesus' existence began.

A small question" HOW could it be faked?

Don't know. That's why I suggested commissioning an art forger to try to make a fake shroud. Maybe nobody who knows what they're doing has tried the experiment before. This is the same idea as getting a professional magician to investigate people claiming to be mind readers or spoon benders or faith healers (James Randi's specialty).

Would it work? Maybe, maybe not.

>> It seemed to be doing so, but, of course, in a totally stupid and poorly written way because there was empirical evidence for the journey she took in the length of the recording she made. <<

Better proof than a cloth bearing the imprint of the Resurretion? Hehehe.
