Here ya go, pics of a bunch of moderate Muslims during World War two. The Grand Mufti's (Arafat's uncle) own. They were part of the moderate Nazi faction too. The difference being that the "moderates" wanted to gas you, to be more compassionate to the killers (their troops). Wasn't that considerate of them? The radicals just wanted to shoot you. Yep, Islam has been a religion of peace and tolerance as long as we can remember. Don't they look nice in them fancy uniforms?

If the religion of throat-slitting peace hasn't changed in 1,400 years, what makes anyone think it is just going to suddenly "get civilized" and join humanity today?

I agree with you in that defanging Islam would be like making a household pet of a lion or turning a Nazi into a member of a local civics club...you never know when the call of the wild is going to occur.

The intolerant side of Islam must utterly exposed and humiliated in defeat, like the ideology of the fascists, communists or Japanese Imperialists, so any future Imam who tries to revive ideas of the so-called "golden age of Islam" and pushes the Salafi view for an Islamic resurgence is seen as a crackpot by the majority of those who still want to call themselves "Muslim."

I agree also that a reformation of Islam is the best solution. Lets face it, we can't commit genocide and will never be able to convert more then a few of them. Many forms of Islam are so rigid that they can't thrive in an open society with competition from other religions and ideas. If there are truly spiritual people in Islam, who truly love their religion, they must reform it. The radical fundamentalist extremists are the real enemies of Islam and the Muslim world needs to wake up to that.

As much as some profound change in Islam is desirable, it will never happen until they have brought ruin upon themselves. A aggressive attitude, where many nations actively pursue all extremists with force is the only way it will happen. Currently there seems to be only one language, brute force, that the Muslims seem to be able to hear. Whatever a reformed Islam would become it would have to be very different from anything known today. I still believe that the reason Islam doesn't tolerate any other religions or ideas is that it can't compete on a level field. The religion is seriously flawed and depends on violence to spread and maintain it's grip. /p>
