PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: It's snowing in Washington today. The President and First Lady attended St. John's Church this morning before heading back to the White House to continue monitoring events in Iraq.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
In great numbers, and under great risk, Iraqis have shown their commitment to democracy. By participating in free elections, the Iraqi people have firmly rejected the anti-democratic ideology of the terrorists. They have refused to be intimidated by thugs and assassins. And they have demonstrated the kind of courage that is always the foundation of self-government.
Some Iraqis were killed while exercising their rights as citizens. We also mourn the American and British military personnel who lost their lives today. Their sacrifices were made in a vital cause of freedom, peace in a troubled region, and a more secure future for us all.
On behalf of the American people, I congratulate the people of Iraq on this great and historic achievement.

I should know to check my facts before speaking amongst FReepers... We can only hope and pray the loss of life is minimal. . .
They showed Basra on UK TV and it was encouraging to hear the British Commander say that it was the Iraqi Police in charge of security with the British troops backing them up but under their instructions.
This is the way forward.
Better -- but I know what you mean.
**I think in that case, Lynne should allow him a little junk food today perhaps :0)**
Maybe she will let him have dessert today LOL
Oh yeah, ping me on those "ratings." Unbelieveable, the worst taste. I actually thought better of Tim than that.
Thanks for the link. Much appreciated.
Absolutely! Things can only get better for Iraq - day by day. This is one HUGE step forward for all nations who have helped Iraq get to this day. I am so glad that I am around to witness this!
Now that is FUNNY! ROFLMAO!!!!!
I turned on all of the morning talk shows to see how they would start their broadcasts---Fox's Shep Smith was the only one that looked happy. Jennings looked like he was gritting his teeth and trying to smile. The worst was ole Dan Rather---he looked like his best friend (Saddam?) had just died---he started talking about long voting lines, but his face said "doom and gloom" and he looked really OLD!
They hate everything good that we do.
The word 'evil' is what comes to mind......
Excellent pics. Thank you.
How reassuring it is to have dignity back in the White House.
Yes, that was also the pattern U.S. and Iraqi forces used in the American sectors. It is a way forward. But don't tell Ted Kennedy - he demands we start withdrawing forces right away no matter what the Iraqi government says about it. If you told HIM, he might throw a REAL political tantrum, eh?
No kidding...you know, I have often thought it would be nice if some of these people just made good on their threats and left.
They could form their own country, (which would probably last, oh, about 10 minutes, or how ever long it took Osama to get a dirty bomb past their pathetic security forces)...they could call it "Whineland".
Since this C130 was heading to Balad, I fear American troop casualities as well...troops hitch a ride with anything going their way....prayers for all.
"In Iraq, this is called voting..."
Truly an amazing day brought to everyone by W.
What do you wanna bet that some dem will critisize Bush for giving his speech today---
It will go something like---he couldn't get to a camera the day the tsunami hit, but boy he rushed as fast as he could when the elections went well. He only wants to go on TV when the news is good, not bad.
Wanna bet?
