PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: It's snowing in Washington today. The President and First Lady attended St. John's Church this morning before heading back to the White House to continue monitoring events in Iraq.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
In great numbers, and under great risk, Iraqis have shown their commitment to democracy. By participating in free elections, the Iraqi people have firmly rejected the anti-democratic ideology of the terrorists. They have refused to be intimidated by thugs and assassins. And they have demonstrated the kind of courage that is always the foundation of self-government.
Some Iraqis were killed while exercising their rights as citizens. We also mourn the American and British military personnel who lost their lives today. Their sacrifices were made in a vital cause of freedom, peace in a troubled region, and a more secure future for us all.
On behalf of the American people, I congratulate the people of Iraq on this great and historic achievement.

Thanks I take a look later
Well good day to you, Onyx. Very good to hear from you. You bet I watched GWB's speech. The media announced it as a press conference, so I was delighted when he gave his speech, turned and walked away, leaving them to shout questions after him. Perfect! He never, ever disappoints me.

Yeah...lol...I loved that part too.
Oh how they wanted to make statements
in the form of eventual questions.
And to think Clinton was called 'slick.'
The press cannot touch POTUS.
He's way too smart for them.
You know who seemed quietly joyous today? Brit Hume. Gotta love that man. As for Shep, he's a new-media guy, whereas Jennings, Rather and their ilk are so over. They just don't know it.
Amen..God bless our Aussie allies..and hats off to John Howard.
Oh, boy, it sure is!
Just guessing...
I know. I even checked to see if there was a Beezie photo, sigh. Can't wait to see her again. BTW, it's been such a busy week that I forgot to remind everyone Beezie turned 3 months old on the 28th.
Hi, AllieOop. I'm delighted you stopped by to add your thoughts on this momentous day. We all have much to be proud of today, and we deserve to take a moment and share our feelings with each other.
Wolfstar, GREAT DIL today, and GREAT pictures! I especialy loved the one of Barney in the snow!
Thank you for doing this! I haven't stopped thanking God (or crying) ever since I logged on today, reading all the threads about the elections in Iraq. This is a wonderful day.
A historic day for all nations who have taken a stand against tyranny in the world. God bless all the troops of all these nations and those leaders who had the foresight so that we could all see this day dawn.
A losers' fate they all richly deserve.
All good slogans.
And I just remembered that when Condi Rice sent Pres. Bush a note saying that Iraq was sovereign, he wrote on the note, "Let freedom reign." I'm trying to build on that, but I'm not getting anywhere.
Roosevelt said about the attack on Pearl Harbor, "A date which will live in infamy." How about, "A date which will ..........." HELLLP!
God Bless our Australian friends
That is a touching photo of our guys praying. Glad you appreciated it.
(Just kidding. :o)
So I've gone too far with the dietary restrictions being lifted for the VP? Sigh, OK...just dessert!
But then again, he could balance the red meat with red wine-LDL v. HDL. There you go!
That is too funny...
