Because that's the way it should be. Why wouldn't it make the world a better place? People would be happier, marriage would still be as important as it is today, and gay discrimination wouldn't be as much of an issue.

I'm no good at debating, okay? :p I have my reasons, and unless you or someone else here can convince me why gay marriage is NOT okay, I will still feel the same way I do.

Then what's your opinion on polygamous marriages? Wouldn't it make the world a better place? People would be happier, marriage would still be as important as it is today, and discrimination against polygamists wouldn't be as much of an issue. Do you agree?

I have to agree with the moderates here. Unless there's a reason they can't make it illegal without an amendment, they shouldn't go for an amendment. This is just pandering here.

"Well I live in the NW, and the conservatives here are every bit as conservative as elsewhere."

How come the vote failed then? Idaho is a more of a red state than many Southern states.

This is odd. We passed a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman here in Oregon by a good margin.

Now the pro-"homosexual-marriage" activists are trying to argue that we don't have the right to amend the state constitution on certain subjects.

My guess is that the spud-heads got hoodwinked into putting RINOS in the legislature.

Ah ha. I see what the problem is. Idaho, like Washington, has no procedure for voter-initiated constitutional amendments.

In Oregon, we have full citizen initiative and referendum rights.

"blockade of moderates. "

no ... a blockade of militant pro homosexuals

there is nothing moderate about the sodomite agenda.

"In Oregon, we have full citizen initiative and referendum rights."

Same here in Oklahoma. It has allowed us to circumvent a recalitrant legislature before.

The initiative process is antithetical to a Representative Republic (so why do I love it so ;'}

Idaho is being invaded by liberal Hollywood types fleeing California.

Get rid of the RINOS in the primary. That shouldn't be difficult in a State like Idaho - it was done in Vermont, even.

Notice it failed amongst politicians, not in a vote of the people.

Right, and I hope and pray that the people of Idaho notice that as well. I can't believe that a majority of the people of the state represented in Washington by Larry Craig want to allow sodomite marriages. Sounds as though 8 RINO state Senators need to be forcefully reminded that they are responsibly to the people who elect them, and if they betray that trust they can be replaced with others who won't.
