Anyone else see a connection between the "GI Joe" hostage hoax and the election? (vanity)

I can't help seeing a connection between the election and the "GI Joe" hoax. In 3 days, the Iraqi attitude toward the "insurgents" has gone from fear to defiance to ridicule (assuming the hoax is getting the play over there that it's getting here.) That can't be good for recruiting. Meanwhile, Iraq's police and army seem to have turned a corner as well, in the opposite direction.

I think doll recruits have probably dropped off.
Thanks for the informative vanity.

I am of the opinion that the jihadis honestly intended to use the photo as a recruiting-tool.

I heard that terrorist attacks in Iraq are down to 1/3 of what they were pre-election. There was a picture of 2 masked "insurgents" on a prominent magazine cover this week. My first thought was, they wear masks because they are afraid people would see how stupid they were, or how just plain butt-ugly!!!
Osama's "holy war" is about to come to an end.....

I'm not quite that optomistic. I think they'll fight on in Iraq, in hope that the process that began on Sunday will derail somewhere along the line. But the view of them as dead-enders sticks a lot better now.

assuming the hoax is getting the play over there that it's getting here Seems unlikely. Then next "Tickle Me Elmo" joke that comes out of Iraq will be the first. EVER.
The closest analogy would be the "Evil Bert" signs, where screeching anti-Americans were cluelessly parading signs of Osama Bin Laden next to Bert from Sesame Street. WE thought it was hilarious, but the joke went over their heads.

Here is Evil Bert in case you don't know what I'm talking about. This is a genuine, unretouched picture of an anti-American rally. Look behind Osama's shoulder.:

I'm guessing it was made by pro-US middle east hackers to make the Islamists look foolish and ineffective.
