Saturday Night magazine’s tribute to a deserter
CFP ^ | February 4, 2005 | Arthur Weinreb

Posted on 02/04/2005 10:18:10 AM PST by MikeEdwards

The cover of the February issue of Saturday Night magazine is graced with a picture of a stern looking Jeremy Hinzman, one of several U.S. military deserters who are currently in Canada seeking Convention refugee status. Across Hinzman’s picture are written the words, "The Deserter", the title of the cover story by writer Andrew Clark. Underneath the title is written, "Jeremy Hinzman is a model American soldier in every way but one. He refuses to kill anybody."

How profound!

Perhaps the magazine might one day publish the tragic story of Chantal, the world’s most perfect exotic dancer, if only she take her clothes off. The Canadian government would be killing gays and lesbians, not allowing them to marry if Canadian soldiers and those of their World War II allies would have been such model soldiers.

Besides being silly, the words on the cover were wrong. Jeremy Hinzman never refused to kill "anybody". The ex member of the 82nd Airborne had told military officials that he would kill to protect his company or his family; that was the reason that his application for conscientious objector status was refused by the army. As it was with that application, Hinzman is likely to be done in on his refugee claim by his honesty.

On the inside of the magazine, it is explained that Andrew Clark was compelled to write this article because of his "interest in the inversion that war creates. During peacetime, a person who kills is sent to jail. During a war, a person who kills is sent to jail."

More profound thoughts!

"We’re a culture that prizes individualism, but during the war that becomes a liability". . . . .

We do have a volunteer army, right?

What the hell did this coward think the army was all about-----going camping and birdwatching and shooting an occasional bunny rabbit for stew?

The army is better off without a retard like this.

Ummmm...."model soldier"?

I think he forgot his General Orders, as well as the oath he took which reads, in part, to obey the lawful orders of the officers appointed over him.

1st General Order
I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post only when properly relieved.

2nd General Order
I will obey my special orders and perform all of my duties in a military manner.

3rd General Order
I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions, to the commander of the relief.

And number one in the code of conduct...

1. I am an American fighting man. I will defend our country and our way of life.

and his oath of enlistment

1. I will support and defend the Constitution and this country against all enemies foreign and domestic.

2, I will obey all of the orders of officers and SNCO's appointed over me.

H,
Heh, yeah which part of "I am an American fighting man" do you suppose he interpreted to mean, "I think fighting is icky"?

I don't care what else this guy did. He quit, so he's a dirtbag. And if that's not enough to make him one, he allows himself to be used by lefty and foreign press to slag his country and his comrades.

Amen to THAT!

Once, as a Sgt, I refused to let a full bird in a gate that my Master Guns said, "No one, and I mean NO ONE comes through this gate. Got it?"

That was one PISSED OFF Col but pissing him off was better than getting a beating from Master Guns!

"Jeremy Hinzman is a model American soldier in every way but one. He refuses to kill anybody."

Try these:

"Jeremy Hinzman is a model American DOCTOR in every way but one. He refuses to HEAL anybody."

"Jeremy Hinzman is a model American TEACHER in every way but one. He refuses to INSTRUCT anybody."

"Jeremy Hinzman is a model American POLICEMAN in every way but one. He refuses to ARREST anybody."

And so on.

He's a pussy. I don't want to kill anybody either - but I damn sure will when need be.

Armed Forces. A-R-M-E-D !!!

This punk obviously signed to get his college loans paid off - or with some other ulterior motive - and now doesn't want to fulfill his end of the bargain.

He's far from "model" in this old NCO's book. String his ass up.

"1. I will support and defend the Constitution and this country against all enemies foreign and domestic."

This is NOT the oath I took 30 some years ago. It WAS a different country Legally then.

It was to support and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies both foreign and domestic. Not this Corporate thing they have at law these days.

Words at law have meaning, Notice even the presidential oath leaves out the words " of America" .these last many years. and as for the deserter, Shoot on sight. Nuff said.

This "woman" who is trying to get this guy refugee status was on a radio talk show the other day. She's just another moonbat. They tore her to pieces, then kicked her off the show when she mentioned "did you see micheal Moore's f9/11"?

It was funny. The simple fact is this guy cannot get refugee status, because his life is not in danger. He is not a draft dodger either, he volunteered. What he is doing is trying to escape prosecution, and that just will not help him get refugee status. In fact, he should get kicked out of Canada and made to pay child support for the kid he abandoned.
They can take it out of his pay he will get for peeling potatoes for the next few years.
The guy thought he would get a free ride by volunteering. He took the money and he should be made to pay it back.
Refugee status is not for criminals trying to avoid paying for their crimes.
