The democrats are in a death spiral. The harder they try to pull out, the tighter the spiral becomes. They have no idea the true nature of their situation. So they just keep trying harder what they have been doing. It truly is amazing. If you ask any freeper they will tell you what they are doing wrong. Its RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM but they refuse to see it. That is a sign of political extinction as a possiblity.

The Democratic Party is becoming unimportant. They will be a small regional party soon. Then go the way of the Whigs. Then hopefully a new party will be the opposition to the republicans. IMO it will hopefully be the 3rd biggest party, the Libertarian Party. This may be a fantasy but fingers crossed.
To: quidnunc
The more they lose the dumber and more hateful they get. The dumber and more hateful they get the more they lose.
The Liberals Democrats cannot break this cycle of self destruction and annihilation, and they are not going to win any election again until they get ride of the delusional left wing kooks who are gaining even more control and more straight in their party. For example one the rabid left wing kooks, Howard Dean is going to be DNC chair.
Instead of learning from their crushing defeat in November 2004, they are even going deeper in the same dumb actions that caused their defeat.
We should be happy that these are our opponents, they cannot win.

The problem with the Dem party is that over the last election year they positioned themselves so that everthing had to go badly for them to advance. The economy, Iraq, etc. Now that things are going well, they are in massive decline.

Quid reports...you decide.
(and yes, Quid is the best. Just don't tell him that. He gets grouchy when complimented!)

Although I agree with you that the liberal democrat party is dying and dying fast, there is no way the Libertarian party is going to gain any more than 0.25% of the vote.

So true, so true. And yet they simply cannot help themselves, they've been doing this for so long that they know no other way.

She's probably my favorite contributor to
The Weekly Standard. Outside of Christopher Caldwell, I don't know of any writer for that magazine who outshines her in terms of writing lucid, vivid and convincing prose, of a polemical nature.
