Hard to sell yourself when you don't have the money like the two major parties have. Both try to get other parties off the ballots.

Nonetheless, third parties have had a measurable impact on American politics. Recently, there was Ross Perot and George Wallace.

At one time, the Republicans were also a third party.

It may be difficult. But it's not impossible. The LP needs to decide whether they'll try to ride a single issue into prominence (as did Perot and Wallace) -- which invariably grants only transitory influence -- or try to build a more broad-based following.

I am merely submitting that, if the LP is to prosper on a single issue, drug legalization ain't it. But, if the LP wants to achieve some permanence, it needs to build a broader base.
