A University of Colorado student group filed a motion in U.S. District Court in Denver this morning seeking a preliminary injunction against the university to allow embattled professor Ward Churchill to speak on campus.
A hearing on the motion is set for 4 p.m., said David Rhone, a spokesman for the group, CU Students for Churchill.
Churchill was to speak at 7 p.m. today in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. However, late Monday, CU officials canceled the speech, citing safety concerns.
"We are disappointed in the university for canceling professor Churchills lecture scheduled for tonight in the University Memorial Center," Rhone said in a statement today. "Many other, more controversial figures have spoken on campus and the universitys blanket statement regarding the safety of professor Churchill and students is simply not a valid reason to cancel this planned event."
The student group is represented by attorney David Lane. He could not be reached for comment this morning.
our nations future. /puke
Stupid, rich lefty kids.
He has already infected the minds of many students and must be destroyed!
The inmates running the show there..
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.
Time to put these tots on double secret probation.
Let him go speak in the local Pizza Hut parking lot.
These punks are the same ones who would riot if someone like Falwell or Shlafly were ever invited on campus, and they would never see their hypocrisy.
A bit of an insight into the entitlement culture.
Any bets it never even crossed their minds to put up a few bucks of their own and go rent a hall somewhere?
I love what's happening up there, and not just that Churchill will likely lose his job. It forces these braindead students to look closely at what they think are their "deeply held convictions". Some will see the cliff they're headed towards and slam on the brakes. They'll at least moderate their ideology, if not begin to see how flat out wrong they truly are. Others will go creening over the edge. Either way, we win. We either gain newly educated converts, or we can more easily identify the loons. Thank you, Ward Churchill, for your rank stupidity, which makes my life easier, and much more entertaining.
I only hope that very extreme cases like this give parents/taxpayers a better sense of what's happening in "higher education" in this country. But they might do better to remember that "I Am Charlotte Simmons" is not really fiction. When you take a bunch of people facing serious challenges from their hormones and place them in the care of vicious people who are set on corrupting them, you get college life in the USA today.
Gotta love the irony here. First, the lefties at the school cancel the event because of "security concerns" that weren't really there. Then, the lefty students sue the school for "protecting" them!
Even more ironic is this crypto-Marxist Indian wannabe requires the protection of civil society so that he may advocate the destruction of that very same civil society.
Be helpful to get the names of all the members of this group.
Who are these idiots?
And he gets paid to spread his vile.
I think he should not be allowed to speak anywhere unless family members of the 9/11 victims are also represented.
There's a right to face your accuser in this country.
I'd prefer to do it with a banana cream pie.
Losers for a Loser. Fake Intellectuals for a Fake Intellectual.
Obviously taught by their parents that if you don't get what you want, throw a tantrum, or sue! I think there is a good argument for mandatory military service here.
No thanks, I don't believe I'd want Mr. Churchill or his students watching my back.
Let him speak, let him answer questions.
Some chick that claimed to be David "nancy boy" Rhone from the article just contacted me via Freepmail. I think she was trying to cruise for a date.
Damn!!! that Rhone chick wants my body bad. Keeps trying to flirt with me and rub up on me via freepmail....
