From Military.com:

"The Navy Working Uniform is being designed to take the place of utilities, wash khaki, coveralls, woodland green, aviation green, winter working blue and tropical working uniforms. The normal wear life is designed to last up to 18 months, compared to the current wear life of six months for the working uniform."

IMO let's leave the dress blues and whites alone, figure out a working uniform, and keep the coveralls for the messy jobs. My husband's an AM3 and on those days where he comes home looking like he rolled around on the flight line, those dungarees don't last worth a damn. *L*

Tell you what, you try to use buttons with gloved hands, then velcro closures with glove hands, then come back to your comment. If you still think buttons are easy to use, I'll be amazed.

Looks like everyone is getting new utility uniforms. The new USAF one is so--blue.

I agree. Those looked pretty sharp.

When I was in (early 90's) we always wanted to wear the dress blues but never really justified the cost to ourselves. I thought they sort of alluded to the old Civil War uniforms and that would have been better than the green "leisure suit" we were all issued.

It cost me $32 for sewing everything on my most recent pair of BDUs.

Thanks for the info.

It would be heresy if they got rid of the white or blue jumper though! Those look great. Except for some possible material change I wouldn't touch those.

The tropical/summer white uniform looks good, but the winter blues were terrible.

Wouldn't hurt to streamline the number of uniforms in the proverbial seabag though.

Wish they'd replace the girly-beret with a cowboy hat.

Don't know if I like that. The color 'blue' reminds me of UN. I wonder if my daughter was given those last week in her second week of BT?

A bit off topic--Is it proper for us (her parents) buy her AF Challenge Coins? We were thinking of getting a couple with her Flt group number as a graduation from BT gifts.

I think they have designed a "quiet" Velcro. Like the whisper fabric shirts seen in Cabela's catalogues.

Yeah, but they only went to the Velcro ones when the 3M "Post-It" uniform closures didn't pass the underwater testing.

Good thing they are standing in front of the flag, if they were on a ship, we would never see them.

Why the Army ever abandoned the Class A uniform from the 1940's beats me.

I've only seen that old uniform in pictures or movies, but from what I've seen I agree with you. If they're going to re-design the dress greens, I hope that's where they'll start (and I hope they won't make too many changes).

Of course streamline the number of uniforms (My husband marks 5 yrs in March, you should see the collection of uniforms in our closet).

But why are all the other branches trying to look like the Marines?

The uniform is still in test...actually approved, but not at the top level yet.

Buying challenge coins is fine...of course, your daugther may earn one before BT is over.

I can sell you one that works "real good." ;)
