O'Malley Blames GOP Plot For Rumors (MD GOVERNOR'S AID FIRED FOR FREE REPUBLIC POSTS)
Washington Post ^ | 2/9/05 | Matthew Mosk

Posted on 02/08/2005 8:34:15 PM PST by crushkerry

Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley yesterday accused agents of Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s administration of spreading false rumors that he had an extramarital affair, and Ehrlich responded hours later by dismissing a longtime employee.

The mayor, a Democrat considering a bid for governor in 2006, said he believes that the widespread and persistent rumors were part of a "concerted and orchestrated and sustained" effort and called on the Republican governor to apologize to his wife and children. "I don't think any of us run for office expecting that this sort of hurt will be heaped on our kids or our spouses," O'Malley said.

Ehrlich said an apology was premature and denied any personal involvement in spreading the rumor. He then asked for and received the resignation of Joseph Steffen, a longtime aide working in state government. Steffen confirmed yesterday that he had discussed the rumor on a popular conservative Web site and in private e-mails, which were given to The Washington Post.

Thank you so much, Bad Company.

Again, it's the perception of what I wrote as opposed to what I actually wrote. But, perception is reality....

Believe me when I say I was lucky to work for the Governor as long as I did. He is a man of honor, and I couldn't let a man of honor take a hit for something he did not do and had no knowledge of.

Think I'm signing off at this point. I have an interesting day coming up tomorrow. Good night all, and thanks!

DU never did get it. Buckhead was outed by someone else before they got close.

The DU isn't the only loon site out there

And I have no doubt that many in the media follow those websites .. just as I have no doubt they follow FR

If I recall correctly .. it was the LA Time the first reported on who Buckhead was

"How in the world did they find out he was NCPAC?"

There are a couple of ways that I can think of, but webbugs would be high on my list of suspects. Maybe someone should go back to all the threads that NCPAC (et al.) posted on and search them for any evidence of those nasty little critters.

October 24 was a Sunday, I posted that from my home computer.

Whatever, just be careful - because these guys are searching!

Yes, but your name and NCPAC were both in the same message. Plus, as you know, NCPAC has been a bugabo of the left for years. I'm sure your name shows up somewhere on their PAC disclosures. It wouldn't take much to connect your name on the PAC filings with the guy who was working for the GOV, especially if you have a reputation among the bureaucrats.

Best wishes to you.

Had the pleasure of talking at length with Buckhead in D.C. during the Inaugural. His employers are unhappy with him, despite the fact that he was right and did legendary work.

A lot of fine work is done, by some very able and knowledgeable people, here on FR. Thank you for your efforts.

You're posting from the batcave? Hmm.

I wondered why I couldn't pick up some of your posts on my laptop as I sat in my Lexus near San Francisco Bay with my Shar-pei as I combed my long blonde hair and called my Italian husband at the spa that we own.

My family have been tenants in virtually every neighborhood in our borough.

I suppose that rules me out for elective office, doesn't it?

The DUers never figured out who Buckhead was. Buckhead told me in D.C. at the Inaugural that one particularly hard-working reporter did put all the clues together, and then called him at home, so he knew the secret was out.

Are you saying that the DUmmies helped the Slimes expose Buckhead's identity? I would doubt that most DUmmies would have the brains to help, but please enlighten me if they did contribute to the Slimes' efforts.

Buckhead probably has a better memory of this than me, but if I recall correctly, the DUmmies started a thread trying to "out" Buckhead on 9/13. DU has deleted the post, but you can see a Free Republic mention of it here. The DUmmies analyzed his posts, and came to a conclusion that he was a lawyer from the Atlanta area. They might have even narrowed his identity down to a handful of people. The Los Angeles Times printed their story definitively naming Buckhead on 9/17.

So yes, the DUmmies were on the story before the L.A. Times. I'm not saying that DU helped the L.A. Slimes expose Buckhead's identity, but I'm sure many media types lurk there as well. It wouldn't be surprising if the L.A. Slimes reporters used DU research as a starting point for their attempt to "find" Buckhead.

That's rather silly. All they would know is which websites he visited. The only way they could link what he posted is to have what is contained at this end. No, they found him through Richard Viguerie:

Wrong, they would know which PAGE he was on, and then mathcing the TIME and the PAGE to the POST and bingo....you have the USERNAME matched with the persons computer. Also, every PAGE that he went to INCLUDING his own HOME PAGE and LOG IN page would leaves his online trace back to his or the main SERVER. Dont sit here and act as if it cant be traced back to him...its very VERY easily done. Ask any IT guy/dweeb out there

I think you're wrong in that assumption.

The only way to ruin a Democrat's standing within his party is to prove that he is not a philanderer, and has never cheated on his spouse.

I come in daily contact with MD state senators. The rumors were spread by them. In fact, I was the one who brought it to FR.

From my understanding your scenario is how they found out who Buckhead was.

I myself decided after that incident to dis enroll and then enroll under another user name to protect myself.

So you don't think posting my home email address, name, phone number, city, and state occassionally is a good idea?

By some of the names that I've been called here, I thought that I pissed everyone off. I'll have to try harder.
