PETA Gives Fur Coats to Homeless

WASHINGTON (AP) -- An animal rights group has been handing out dozens of fur coats today, to some homeless people living at a Washington, DC shelter.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals opposes the killing of animals for furs.

Spokesman William Rivas-Rivas says the group doesn't want people to wear furs for vanity -- but that the city's neediest residents will wear them for warmth.

One woman who was given a fur coat says she's never owned a fur before. Tuesday Brown -- who's lived in the shelter some 18 months -- picked a long brown coat to wear to church.

PETA says it has burned and buried coats before in protest -- but that it now has so many donated minks and other furs that it wants to do something good with them.

I hope they sell the coats to rich people and buy veal with the proceeds.

I could make a recomendation to them that would make them feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

The the poor hock them off and they end up on the backs of the rich/middle-class again.

So, does this mean that PETA has begun to make the logical connection between the worthwhile sacrifice of animal life and a concurrent increase in the quality of human existence, or is this just a PR snow-job before they declare that chinchillas have an average I.Q. of 132?

If you really want to be warm, turn the fur coat inside out, so the fur is on the inside. Then wear a larger unlined coat ontop of that, as an outer shell.

Okay, so if I'm confronted by a PETAphile about my fur or leather coat, I can shut them up by saying it is for warmth not a fashion statement. Is that correct?

PETA=People Eating Tasty Animals

Don't these people have jobs? Don't they have to be somewhere each morning to earn a living?

I'd rather see their concern over the 3,300 humans slaughtered every day in abortion clinics than to hear about their critter concerns. I'm still waiting for them to come out against fly traps, mouse traps, mosquito nets, etc. What, they don't care about little fury insects??????

At least Doug Adams never pretended to be sane in his writing. Anybody who could come up with Zaphod Beeblebrox had to be a little loony. Guess you could say the same with PETA handing out fur coats.

Did they deliver the fur coats to the homeless in their Hummer?

My mom does costuming for a local theatre group. She gets donations of fur coats all the time; some they use in plays, some she rents out for Halloween costumes, etc. The ones that are worn in parts, or have tears she makes into these indulgent Mink Teddy Bears. She's got herself a nice little sideline going there!

But yes, this behavior is waaaaay too thoughtful and NORMAL for PETA peeps. Are they under new management? Funding must be dropping or something, so as with the Dems they have to pretend to be what they're not to stay afloat these days. ;)

Yep - come spring, they'll reap a bounty unthought of by the PETA geniuses...
