Conservative Reporter Resigns Amid Controversy (NPR joins all-out war on conservative reporters)
NPR - All Things Considered ^ | February 9, 2005 | David Folkenflik

Posted on 02/09/2005 8:19:29 PM PST by tgslTakoma

All Things Considered, February 9, 2005 · A reporter for the conservative news site TalonNews.com resigns. The reporter, who went by the pseudonym Jeff Gannon, drew critical attention at President Bush's Jan. 26 press conference when he referred in question to Democrats "who seem to have divorced themselves from reality" on the issue of retooling Social Security.

Liberal bloggers have disclosed that Gannon, who has little previous journalism experience, was easily granted a coveted White House press pass -- even though he did not work for a traditional or established news organization. He also routinely asked "softball" questions at press conferences. There are also allegations that Gannon is linked to Web sites with homoerotic themes.

Gannon spoke with NPR's David Folkenflik the day before he resigned. He says he is open about his conservative point of view, but that he is just as valid a journalist as other reporters in the White House press corps.

"Their goal was total destruction of a person's life"

...conformity.

Conform to Political Correctness and the Corrupt Old Media will worship you.

Should James/Jeff now pull a David Brock by going over to the Left, the Corrupt Old Media will trumpet him as a hero. Should he resist conforming to their ideology, then they will continue to attack him and everything near/close to him.

Thanks for the heads-up. Curiously, the "Donald James Guckert" noted in the PSU directory graduated in '78 which would put him roughly in the same age range as this "James Dale Guckert" AKA "Jeff Gannon" (age given as 47).

By the way, I never even heard of "Jeff Gannon" before yesterday.
Is this Jeff "press credentials" Gannon scandal supposed to be the scumbag Democrat answer to the Dan "tried to fix a Presidential election using forged military documents" Rather scandal?

HAR!!!

I guess. Lame, ain't it? Unless, of course, you're Jeff Gannon, getting harassing phone calls.

This could be the Larry Flynt faction.

I found this interesting, in retrospect. This is a snip from a letter that Brock sent to McClellen on January 31

"-- Posts by Messrs. Eberle and Gannon on the online forum Free Republic make clear that the two men are partisan activists, not journalists. Mr. Gannon, for example, used Free Republic to try to organize partisan political activities designed to embarrass and discredit Senator John Kerry during last year's presidential campaign."

Folkenflik, Dana Milbank, David Brock all look very light in their loafers.

Folkenflik no doubt lives up to his name, which in his case is probably his chosen nom de plume.

Good morning! How kind of you to remember my pep talks!

I don't know when I have been more disgusted with the media. That White House press group is a pit of snakes, with a few exceptions.

One saving grace is that they will get emboldened. I will bet they try to go after Bill Sammon or Carl Cameron next. They will overstep, and they will come up against some really hardball people.

I am ready to choose a target and hound that person unmercifully. I vote for Dana Milbank, who is a worm of the first order. My first goal is to find out if that is his real name, which college he graduated from (if he did) and his social contacts. I will bet you that there are people in DC who have had run-ins with him in public.

<< There are no websites. >>

Thought that was a given.

'Jeff Gannon' is one of the Good Guys and I should have put a " /just kidding " at the end of my attempt at 'Homer-erotic' humor.

Warm regards -- B A

In their narrow little left-heavy minds, it's OK to go after conservatives, it's OK to dig into their personal lives and report on allegations, it's OK to destroy anyone who does not march in lockstep with "mainstream media." And God help anyone who dares to do similar with their heroes. Is this OK with us?

They sowed the wind.

:Now they will reap the whirlwind.

Trust that.

LOUSY FREEPER TROLL! ;-) Its not okay to be a conservative journalist. Being a lib and pretending you're objective is a whole 'nother story. For the record, Jeff Gannon only crime was being honest about what colored his story. You will never hear legacy media journalists admit they have an agenda. That makes them trolls as much as a Freeper.

Beware of those porn sites--a liberal is bound to see you, since there are mostly liberals there. The net gives us an illusion of privacy that simply does not exist. The best you can hope for is to create distractions and obstacles.

What would also be interesting to know...how did they run this guy to ground? What means did they use?

Earthlink, maybe? AOL? Google.gmail? Who's on the liberal payroll?

For instance, you can post what you think is an anonymous review on a book on a book site like Amazon or Barnes/Nobles, only to come back the next week and find your email on the review byline! The very email that only appears when you buy their products and give them your credit card number. Somebody objected to the book review, made a phone call--and had your email address (from your purchase records) posted in public.

So--I figure if any site has your credit card number, they can "out" you politically with the right phone call.

When these lazy journalists get their pride singed, they will have the means to push you into public.

I've called him Jerry Rivers ever since he was a local reporter on the NYC ABC affiliate

Thanks... but seems his real name was some form of Rivera and not Rivers if you can believe Snopes.... But Rivers is a very prominent name for him when searching the internet.

What's up with Olberman? When he was on ESPN I liked him, but now he is just an ass.

This is his second stint at MSNBC. His first was during clinton's 2nd term and he quit in a snit during impeachment because of the hounding about his "personal life".

Not only that, but a simple click on one of the links on their (Talon) news page brought this up: http://www.talonnews.com/news/2005/february/0203_bush_sotu1.shtml

And I'm sure there are more...
