IKEA stuff is designed by actual designers, and it has sort of a European appeal (which is maybe why you don't care for it). Also very inexpensive. Not all of it is poor quality. I happen to really like IKEA.

It ain't the furniture, it's the $200 farm sinks.

Again, I will be in Atlanta when the Ikea opens this summer.
Do NOT get in my way, there is a sink with my name on it. ;)

Easily...in a negative way of course!

My husband and I went to IKEA once, in Elizabeth NJ, looking for bunk beds I think. What a nightmare maze of a place that is. After walking literally half a mile across an unbelievably enormous parking lot, we were forced to wind around and around the nearly windowless store, following arrows on the floor with no hope of exiting without seeing every single bit of furniture in the place. By the time we made it through, our two small children were so wound up that we let them expend some frustration in the ball pit - the best part of the afternoon was spent mercifully resting by the kids' play area. A good thing, as we needed the energy for the trek back to the car.

Contemporary design at low prices.

It's not what I like but many people do.

About 3 weeks ago I took my newly-married daughter on a road trip to the Ikea north of Chicago. Most of the stuff doesn't appeal to me, since my taste is traditional. However, there were lots of small kitchen items, baskets, flower pots, etc.at REALLY cheap prices. I was most intrigued by the escalators that took your shopping cart up to the next floor.

They also have a really good restaurant.

The advice is good...DO NOT SHOP THERE ON WEEKENDS.

I was at the New Haven IKEA on Wednesday. (It was on my way to Trader Joe's which I love.) It's not where I would buy my living room or dining room furniture but they have great bookcases (the kind to hold books, not for decoration)and storage units. One thing their bookcases have that most don't is the little cutout in the back for your baseboard so that the unit goes right up against the wall. I bought my first bookcase from them about 10 years ago for $79 and it looks brand new. They also have great baskets and that kind of stuff.

My wife and I love IKEA. Some of their stuff is really cheap, but some of it is very high quality. We purchased some nice unfinished pine chests of drawers and nightstands a couple weeks ago. Bring them home in boxes and build them yourself. The little Swedish restaurants in the stores are great!

Ballistic finger-printing of furniture staples.

Um, why did they open at midnight? Did they WANT to provide prey for the night-crawlers? (Sounds like that's what happened to the guy who was stabbed... it was NOT done by a crazed furniture shopper!)

You're right, I guess I don't understand pretentious European styling which must be why I think the new BMW's are butt ugly.

Who knew cheap, ugly furniture could inspire such madness? ;)

You've obviously never been inside a Kerry supporter's home.
