Every Star Trek series that came after Captain James T. Kirk was a cheap, politically-correct knock-off.
The Enterprise series has been many things but has hardly been politically correct; but it has been Pro-Life, Pro-Gun and Pro-War.
That is because Kirk had a pair. Picard developed a semblance of cajones in the last few years of NextGen. I always thought the Picard should have been a bureaucrat and that Riker should have been captain. What the hell, I was not a writer for the series.
I thought Next Generation was pretty good, but everything after that got too dam wierd.
The original series was quite groundbreaking for it's day. It amounted to social studies in space. And actually, even though it was "The Federation", you could see alot of regular American values in it.
I think it was on Thursday nights, but it's been awhile, thats for sure.
ha ha! That`s just what I was going to say. Like my friend says, Star Trek; The politically correct generation. One of the main reasons the original worked so well was the underlying humor of it, I mean who hasn`t tried to imitate James T.Kirk and the hes-i-ta-tion way - of -speak-ing, and all the great sayings "He`s dead Jim" "The engines canna hold up much longer" or Kirks all time great scream "YOU`RE KILL-ING HERRR!!!!" or the antagonism between Bones and Spock "That green blood of his"..great stuff! Although a lot of people would say the acting was bad, it really wasn`t, it was pretty brilliant in my opinion. It made that show. If they used Jeffery Hunter instead of William Shatner, it would never have been that popular, it wouldn`t have stood out as much.
Star Trek the next Generation though was a 180 degree turn around abomination. Everyone came across as cardboard cutouts. I mean did anyone ever say "f**k that Klingon bastard" on that ship? You got the impression everyone was walking on eggshells half the time so as to "not offend". Gimmie a freggin break. SNOOORE!

Yep. There was only one Star Trek, and that was it.
Bump that.
DS9 was a great series.
It was BORING.
There is no greater sin for a TV show.
Well if I was going to do another show I would take that Henry Mudd character from the orignial series who was a skirt chasing con man with a old battleax of a wife.
I would cast Bill and Hillary Clinton in the major roles.
Preach it, brother!
Live long and prosper, fellow FReepers.

Absolutely.
Roddenbury's original was Masonic!
Reminiscent of our beloved FRaternal Republic.
I thought Captain Sisko ate Kirk's lunch at about every turn, except Sisko never "did" a green chick.
I agree....however...
The "prequel" was a brilliant idea. It would have worked out if they would have stayed with the premise. They quickly (almost instantly) went right into the same crap that bored us with everything since Kirk wrestled monsters and women in the same episodes.
I quit watching after the second or third week when it was obvious it was a warmed-over continuation of Picard-land.
If you want fun, watch Battlestar and the Stargate shows. They're pretty good.
I think the series that followed the original showed who the creative genius for the show was. It wasn't Roddenberry, it was the faceless studio guys who insisted Gene stick to the medium.
Rick Bermann followed Roddenberry and destroyed the golden goose (though they did make a lot of money on it).
Battlestar Galactica is a very good show so far as well. And, no mention of Red Dwarf, a fine SciFi British import.
and substandard imitations
Yep....grotesque garbage after the original.

You nailed it!
