Deacon Face Excommunication Over Switch To Republican Party

POMPANO BEACH- Steve Kane a South Florida radio host featured a local deacon who says he faces excommunication from his church after considering a switch to the Republican Party.

Owen Blackwell, who is a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, based in Pompano Beach, Florida, expressed frustration with the Democratic Party during a call-in to the Steve Kane Show several weeks ago.

During the show, Blackwell, who is African-American, told listeners he was considering switching his voter registration from the Democrat to the Republican Party and gave a list of reasons. His remarks have generated much discussion; and a widening political controversy ever since.

Due to escalating debate over the issue, Blackwell reappeared on the show days later, and informed the host that church leaders had summoned him to a meeting after getting word of his plans. During that interview, he also said he had been “promised a top leadership role” in the church if he remained a Democrat.

Steve Kane, host of the Steve Kane Show, questioned if he had been “bribed.” If he does change his party registration, and is ousted from the church, it could create a controversy over whether or not a non-profit, religious organization is allowed to intervene in such a matter.

Changing parties is only 'controversial' to the libs who will do whatever necessary to punish any uppity Deacon.

Of course he could be a good example if he goes ahead and switches, he could be a Deacon Beacon.

pardon me =o)

There is going to be a lot of Blacks folks ex-communicated from their churches in Florida and Ohio as time goes by. By the way, Black voters in Florida and Ohio gave unusually high voting numbers to GW Bush, and thus seriously aided GW Bush in winning Florida and Ohio. The "sea change" is afoot big time. Blacks are finally realizing that the Democrat "slavery" Party will only continue to keep them in both economic and opportunity bondage.

The "Rice Effect", combined with party platform comparisons, is starting a movement that will only gain momentum over time. In simple terms, the black American Republican snowball is starting to roll down the mountain.

This is truly sad commentary..when a church makes being a democrat like a tenet of "faith".

This is a good chance for him to find a church in the true body of Christ. A blessing in disguise.

The Liberal Slave Masters will do just about anything to persuade their subjects to remain on the Plantation. Even employing crude tactics to bully them to stay in line or else!

Unfortunately a lot of black leaders don't want blacks to think for themselves - they have to vote for Democrats, period. Because of that reason, the Democrats hate Condi, J.C. Watts, Rod Paige and every Afro-American Republican. As time passes, more and more blacks will leave the Democratic plantation.

Quite. But in fact the true meaning of the First Amendment is that politics and religion do mix - the antislavery political movement, for example, had an almost entirely religious rationale - and Congress is not authorized to try to prevent it. The charitable deduction in the tax code puts the government, illegitimately, in the business of defining what is charitable and what is not.

Institute a no-deduction flat tax or a National Sales Tax, and the government has no rationale for interfering in a church's ideology.

Democrats start to sound like Islamofacist. They keep talking about tolerance, but if one of their own converts to other 'religion', the person may face 'death penalty.'

Brother Owen, you'll be a servant wherever you are, whether with a position or not, just because you're a member of the Christian family and that is the place of ministry God has called you to.

Let not your heart be troubled ... You don't stand alone ... You and God are a majoruty.

GSG...watching Boston Legal last night, I thought of your Denny Crane line at least 2 dozen times. DC's Nanzi-Panzi strategy on the wimpy Judge was very funny. The end game for the Left approaches, they will not withstand the wholesale mocking of their Ideologies! LOL

Is Owen Blackwell the same person as Mr. Blackwell, the caller who used to be liberal but recently is starting to sound rational?

Anyway, I have the Steve Kane Show on right now. I'm a regular listener although when I did call the show, Brian Craig sounded pissed off at me because I "dared" to mention the DUmmie FUnnies. Therefore he called me an "agenda caller." Oh, and Brian, just to keep up my image, here is the link to the latest DUmmie FUnnies. However, I promise to mend my ways in the future, Brian, and become a chronic caller. I promise, Brian, I promise.
