I assume you get these movies to watch . Was that Abortion movie REALLY worthy of a nomination?
The nomination Vera Drake got for the leading actress which was very much deserved. Imelda Staunton was brilliant. And for the screenplay which was also very good. It's not a pro abortion movie in the way 'The Cider House Rules' was. The pro life side (law enforcement, the title character's family)is given as sympathetic a portrait here as you're likely to see in any movie these days. The title character is shown as a shallow dimwitted woman who doesn't consider the moral consequences of what she's doing at all.
Thanks for the thoughful critique. Maybe I will see it now. I guess this explains why the movie was an afterthought last night.

One of the PRIMARY objectives of this FReep was getting a MASSIVE (four foot by eight foot) full color version of the classic billboard by Citizens United:
from
www.citizensunited.org...in a "front and center" position -- DIRECTLY ACROSS from the Red Carpet arrival area.
We were EXTRAORDINARILY successful in executing that objective. :o)They say that "success has many fathers" -- and yesterday's TREMENDOUS victory was the result of the extraordinary efforts of MANY people...
...but NONE of it would have been possible without that 4' x 8' sign created by DoughtyOne.
It took considerable planning, and the resolution of many almost insurmountable obstacles -- which [in addition to the diligence of Blurblogger] required the intervention of a retired LAPD oficer, and a Captain in the U.S. Army [Special Forces], just back YESTERDAY from his second tour in Iraq ---- plus the quick thinking of the irrepressible Genevieve, and some giant of a man (who is in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen) whom she recruited from the "front lines" ---- but we got DoughtyOne's marvelous creation "front and center" for the WHOLE DAY - from 10 am to 5 pm.NO ONE arriving at the Red Carpet area could avoid seeing it. :o)CLICK HERE for the rest of that thread
