Pope returns to hospital
From correspondents in Vatican City
24feb05
POPE John Paul II, who missed a consistory for the first time in his 26 year pontificate today, is returning to the Rome hospital where he was treated for flu-related breathing problems recently, Vatican sources said.
The Pope, 84, was returning to the Gemelli Hospital because of a recurrence of the flu that hospitalised him earlier this month, according to reports.
He spent 10-days in the hospital after suffering an acute breathing problem brought on by the bout of influenza.
He returned home on February 10 and the Vatican had previously said he was making a steady recovery.
It was not immediately clear why the 84-year-old pontiff was being rehospitalized two weeks after he was discharged after receiving treatment for breathing problems
The Vatican said the 84-year-old Pope had a relapse of the flu Wednesday and was taken to hospital at 10:45 a.m. (4:45 a.m. EST) Thursday for "specialist treatment and further checks."
FoxNews Alert...Pope didn't show for a scheduled event...then they saw activity at hospital...

Seems like he's spending more time in the hospital than out, unfortunately.
The Vatican said he had suffered a relapse of his flu condition. The 84-year-old Pope spent 10 days in the Gemelli Hospital earlier this month. He returned home on 10 February. He suffers from Parkinson's Disease and painful arthritis in his legs. He had to miss a Vatican engagement - a consistory - on Thursday. |

This is not good. Prayers going out for his health.
Ping. Keep up the prayers for the holy father.
Prayers for the Pope.
I wouldn't be suprised to see him go home.
Unless you're attempting to prove in a very public way that your head is lodged deeply in your anus, what function does the above statement serve?
I'm not Catholic, but I've always had a lot of respect for this man. Baptist prayers for the Pope.
Dumb is as dumb does.
I guess I just don't see the big deal about the Pope being hospitalized.
As a human being, I wish him well.
