Churchill Art Piece Called Into Question

by CBS4 News reporter Raj Chohan

Feb 24, 2005 8:03 pm US/Mountain BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) Boulder County resident Duke Prentup has been a fan of native American art for as long as he can remember. That love of art took him to the home of Ward Churchill in the early 1980's, where Prentup bought several pieces of Churchill's art, including a serigraph titled "Winter Attack."

"I have enjoyed them ever since immensely, they're obviously up inside my house," Prentup said.

Last month came a stunning revelation, though, as as Prentup flipped through a 1972 book called The Mystic Warriors of the Plains written and illustrated by the late artist Thomas E. Mails. He found a sketch that was strikingly similar to the Churchill piece.

(Excerpt) See the rest of the article, and photo comparisons of the 2 pieces of art here: http://news4colorado.com/topstories/local_story_055200531.html

Many of us feel that this is the beginning of the overdue fix of the left wing faux professors around the nation.

I sent the new photo / painting discovery off to Michelle Malkin, O'Reilly, Caplis and Silverman on KHOW and a few others. Malkin has the best display of the copied artwork at her web site:

Intentional theft of intellectual property, that should get the creep fired for sure.

I'd like to investigate other paintings by Thomas Mails. The painting in question is beautiful.

Do you believe that sH*t?

It is typical of a con artist, and that is what Churchill is.

Btw I think Winston Churchill is probably turning araound in his grave of someone like the "professor" sharing his last name

Change many to few, and I will agree with you.

A couple we know have recently retired from teaching and education administration. He was a principal, and he is totally out of the closet. She has changed a lot and is back to being someone we like being around. According to the husband, less than 5% of the teachers and principals are conservative or even moderate, and most of them are 60 something. He said some of the newer 20/30 something teachers since 9/11 have become conservative.

***From #133 Ryan Mails, the son of the late Thomas Mails said the family still retained the copyrights to the drawings of the Mystic Warriors book***

Careful, now. Some of T. E. Mails' pictures were copied from various National Geographics. He just put Indian clothes and western settings on the people.

Computer been down so this is the first I heard of this. I ran to my copy of MYSTIC WARIORS OF THE PLAINS to check it out. The Winter War Party is on page 575.

Prediction:
Breaking News: Professor "Mental" Ward Churchill, (as another FReeper accurately called him) University of Colorado, Boulder has recently been charged with disturbing the peace and inciting a riot by Boulder Colorado Police. Prof. Berry who recently stated “I can’t take it anymore” pretended to fake his own suicide by tossing a life-sized stuffed dummy dressed as himself, out of his college office window to the ground below.

Students were so stunned and many were traumatized when they feared the professor had taken his own life. “There were arms and legs all over the sidewalk,” said one student. “His head was in the bushes, his shoes were in the street, and it was awful!” “I stood there and cried and cried. I can’t believe this. It’s Bush’s fault!” wailed another distraught female student as a local psychologist tried to comfort her. The University has canceled classes for today so that all students who need help can be counseled.

In the meantime, Prof. Churchill was located hiding in his closet, where he stood naked, having shed his clothes to put on the dummy. “It’s my right,” he shouted. “My right to demonstrate and call attention to a wrong.” “They are picking on me. There is a right-wing conspiracy out there. They don’t respect me. I don’t get no respect!”

Along side police found a box from “Barbara’s Wig shop,” which was empty and presumed to have contained the long locks that were once on the dummy, but now in possession of a distressed student who won’t turn them over to the police. “It’s all we have left,” the student proclaimed – “I will never part with the Professor’s hair – it was his trademark, his testament to his Indian Heritage. It is sacred hair.” At which time all students chimed in:

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
Ward’s hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of Ward’s …

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
Ward’s hair.

It lines up perfectly if you rotate it 1 degree and scale it by 109.5% (props to LGF operative DaZoid81 -- he figured this out). Here's a link to a "rathergif" of it: http://homepage.mac.com/cfj/.Pictures/Ward-animated.gif

So, how long until the DU and other moonbats on the left accuse Karl Rove of setting this up? LOL

Whoops...meant "Prof. Ward - couldn't take it anymore." Not Prof. Berry - just thinking about her, recently, too. Sorry folks.

"This is a Ward Churchill original oil painting complete with documentation. Wether or not Ward copied the piece is not relevant. Thanks for your interest."

Copyright infringement certainly IS relevant.

The little Cherokee blood I have (1/16 from Tallequah)) is deeply offended by his claim. As for the rest of me - well, just let me say my hair is close to being on fire. This WND article did nothing to soothe either - thanks, sending the link to my Mom.

"CU has a major problem on their hands. The longer they wait, the worse it gets. He is discrediting their university."

CU discredits itself just as Churchill discredits his own self. One issue "freedom of speech," among many evident issues, indicates that neither the collective entity CU nor Weirdo Churchill is cognitively capable of perceiving the moral distinction between rational speech and hate speech. After reading about former CU Mary Berry, I believe Colorado University's policy is to provide a perfect caldron for brewing hatred.

Hey, olympian, THANKS! I'm still trying to find the source photographs for two more of his "original" works. I'll ping you when I dig them up. When, not if. ;o)
