Kyoto & World Bank *the bookie!*
AsiaTimes ^ | Feb 26, 2005 | Daphne Wysham

Here, the World Bank saw opportunity. One leaked document exposed World Bank plans to profit handsomely by charging a 5% commission on carbon transactions in a self-appointed role as a broker between Northern and Southern governments and industries. (The commission - which the Bank now claims is merely to cover costs - will be closer to 8-10%.) With a potential market in carbon dioxide that could reach $2 billion by 2005, the World Bank noted in the leaked memo, it could quickly earn $100 million in one year - and that was just for starters.

Why is there so much support for carbon trading? Well, there is plenty of money to be made. The average citizen won't make any; instead, the very same corporations who fuel the problem - the large oil, gas, and coal companies - are among those who will profit from this trade in invisible gases. For instance, just last month, Danish power utility Energi E2 sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of the rights it had been granted free by its government to Shell Oil Company after mild temperatures kept the utility's carbon emissions below expected levels. No such free rights have been granted to ordinary Danish citizens, however.

Basicly this whole Kyoto thing is one big ploy to have a Carbon exchange which feeds world bank revenues. What a crock.

And only our President Bush saw through this scheme.

I think not, however he was the only person of power to see through it while being in a position to take action with a willingness to do so against this scheme.

What a skim for the useless eaters over at the World Bank. There is not a large market in carbon credits trading. It could be handled by one server computer in my closet hosting an eBay type site, which would also mean transparent transactions.

Just what the world needs, another layer of useless bureaucracy to rip people off through higher prices and taxes.

After read the whole article and after a retch, it's the same old Lefty screed, becoming evermore shrill and tiresome and resulting in evermore damage.
Kyoto good...but not so good because brokering Kyoto Credits is nothing than a scam by the World Bank and other capitalist tools...but the real culprit is of course the USA and BUSH, bushy Bush. Not even a mention of China's Kyoto-NO. No logic involved, unless the whole point is Anarchism/Chaos/Self-destruction.

But the transfer of billions of dollars for carbon credits, and the skimming of hundreds of millions of dollars by the World bank just proves that less carbons will be emitted into the atmosphere. /sarcasm

I've been meaning to read that book that shows that the warming of the seas is all a natural phenomenon and part of weather cycles. With the global warming and gashouse effect people trying to tell us is that humans are causing this, when this phenomenon has occurred in the earth's history before humans were even here.

There must be people at the UN who do nothing but think up ways to scam more money out of the US. Hire a few junk scientists, have them explain that natural earth processes are the US' fault and voila, sit back and watch the bucks roll in. Sorry Kofi. You and Kojo don't get to line your pockets at the expense of the US this time.

**The Japanese steel industry plans to clear its Kyoto Protocol obligations by acquiring emissions credits in exchange for providing China with technological know-how***

***European Union ambitions to start trading in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions next year to help meet targets under the UN's global warming pact cleared an important hurdle in Brussels on Wednesday, the European Commission said.***

Carbon Credits are a money making scheme.

This is a real dream piece to attack, full of easily refuted claims.

Also, this would have been the UN's stealth wealth tax on Americans and American corporations.

My wife is now reading Michael Crichton's new book, "State of Fear"!

I heard her laughing about every 10 to 15 minutes this past week while reading the book. I asked her why she was laughing.

She said "You and our oldest son could written this book. You will not believe how many of your and his rants the past decades are in this book."

Needless to say I will be reading it when she finishes it. Our son bought the book, read it and gave it to her. He said don't let Dad read this first or he will tell you all week, "I told you about these damn Watermelons!"

green house gases ....... One big scam. Temperatures may rise 4 degrees at the most which means nothing. Meanwhile China and India are mostly exempt from Kyoto since they are developing nations. The same China that's trying to lock up oil from the same nations it's trying to turn against us such as Venezuela and Iran

Don't you know that the primary purpose of government is to rig the system so that a steady flow of money is directed into your friends pockets? See Keyword extortion.
