MEDIA MONSTER KILLER (Bill Moyers)
Santa Barbara Independent ^ | February 24, 2005 | Nick Welsh

Posted on 02/26/2005 9:57:03 AM PST by Anti-Bubba182

Spend five minutes on the phone with Bill Moyers, dubbed by some “the conscience” of American journalism, and it’s abundantly obvious that the man is troubled, and profoundly pissed off; though it’s doubtful someone so imbued with good Southern manners would use such talk. Now 70, Moyers has spent most of the past 55 years hunting the truth behind his craft, a working journalist tracing the twisted paths of power for both newspapers and television. Embodying that rare combination of graciousness, dignity, and passion, Moyers has been audacious enough to tell “the truth behind the news,” rather than to report the “he-said-she-said” ping-pong that often passes for news. And the truth about the news business — and democracy — as Moyers sees, could not be more grim.

The mainstream news media, Moyers laments, has taken a dive at a time when the power of the Republican Party has never been more absolute and more morally bankrupt. As a result, public discourse has been reduced to a scream-fest dominated by such unabashedly conservative media giants as Fox, Clear Channel, and Sinclair, who’ve become “echo chambers” for the Bush administration, if not outright propagandists. And when it comes to the realities of bare-knuckle politics, Moyers is hardly some pious sissy. For three years he worked closely with former President Lyndon Johnson, whose ferocity as a political infighter was exceeded only by his reputed Machiavellian genius. After his stint with Johnson, Moyers went to work for CBS; in 1986 he created his own independent production company, Public Affairs Television...."

‘I never took him as a compassionate conservative. I’m a Texan. I saw what he had done to Texas and I knew he would do to the nation what he had done to Texas. And by God he’s done it.’

— Bill Moyers

The effrontery of this malignant old bastard! I've seen it for years and it is still shocking. Moyers gets rich on public money and when the public, yes the public, not government or corporate interests, rejects in the form of larger audiences for media like Fox and the net and a GOP goverment his Lefty kant,he goes Ape.

But, it still has to sting that he has failed and must inwardly know it, though he will never admit it.

If Bill Moyers is "the conscience" of American journalism that explains everything! No wonder...! Oh nevermind.

The truth? No he-said, she-said?

Who wrote this swill, one of his kids? I thought Moyers was about to be procleaimed Greatest Human Ever. You won't find a crankier, more jealous old puke anywhere.

Moyers is being left on the ash heap of history, along with the Evil Empire, the MSM, the Dialectic, et al. Somehow, I think I'll miss him as much as I miss the Evil Empire.

Like Amtrak, PBS should be required to privatize. The taxpayers should never need to subsidize ideology.

And the truth about the news business — and democracy — as Moyers sees, could not be more grim.

For starters, the MSM news business is not related to democracy. More often than not, it stands against democracy.

The mainstream news media, Moyers laments, has taken a dive at a time when the power of the Republican Party has never been more absolute and more morally bankrupt.

[sigh] The MSM's wounds are self-inflicted: they no longer control a Monopoly of Information. Their credibility has been shattered because they've finally been busted using lies to attack conservatives and the Republican party. FOX, Internet, and Blogs have leveled the playing field - the MSM has just been too slow and too stupid to realize it. Decades of censorship and bias are being exposed to the market place of ideas. Get used to it shills, cause its only gonna get worse.

As a result, public discourse has been reduced to a scream-fest dominated by such unabashedly conservative media giants as Fox, Clear Channel, and Sinclair, who’ve become “echo chambers” for the Bush administration, if not outright propagandists

Public discourse between the Right and the Left always starts with the Right pushing a new idea and always ends with the Left screaming "Nazi!". If you thought CNN represented more than half the country, you're in for a long ride.

He's just another ageing looney lefty from tu in Austin. They will soon be gone, and the young crop their "journalism" department is turning out now will have a much harder time finding work in the dying MSM business. That's two happy thoughts for the day you can thank me for.

Tax money Moyers also used in a scam to fund his son's enterprises.

It's good to know this piece of trash has been taken to the curb to join Tom Brokaw and, soon, Dan Rather. The cosmic garbagemen can't come soon enough to the remove their stench, IMO.

Amazing how the MSM gets these hard-core liberal democrat operatives (Moyers, Stephonopolus, Matthews, Russert) and turns them into Great Journalists speaking truth to power.

Moyers, of course, is ridiculous bag of wind who is senile. He is upset because he can no longer harangue the American people without contradiction.

And of course Reverend Moyers thinks anyone who is disagrees is stupid or evil.

Goodbye Bill you are obsolete like the VCR and Dan Rather.

Bill Moyers is like Maureen Dowd. Both are aging media wh*res who have not had an honest thought for the last two decades. The only difference is that Down still has a job, for the time being.

Words escape me when writing about Moyers however some years ago a TV producer of a particularly oily type was described as "salami dipped in chicken fat" and that IMHO covers Moyers and his southern charm.

For three years he worked closely with former President Lyndon Johnson,..

Johnson single handedly destroyed the black family of husband and wife, funneling their energy instead into a victimhood cult of people looking for handouts which was dubbed "The Great Society."

Moyers applauds this?

Beautifully expressed!

" I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters. "

" As for what is not true, you will always find abundance in the newspapers. "

-- Thomas Jefferson -- because;

" Newspapers...serve as chimnies to carry off noxious vapors and smoke. "

A whole lot of what Moyers is came from that experience. I have to believe that his bitterness is a measure of our success.

Sorry, acolyte-writer Nick Welsh, three seconds is all I could spend on your story before the first 17 words reduced me to helpless laughter.
