I understand that the "stars" were the main focus of the Academy Awards,What we seek is a photograph of our "Thank You, Hollywood!" banner in front of the huge crowd gathered outside the old Hollywood National Bank building.
not us "barbarians" outside the gate. But we had hoped to see at least a FEW images of our "Thank You, Hollywood!" sign...To date, however, we have found virtually NO images of our pro-Bush/anti-Michael Moore rally except for one AP photo of our "Dude, Wheres MY Oscar?" sign.
...SOMEWHERE in the media coverage.Ideally, the "money shot" that we seek will be something like THIS one, from a PREVIOUS rally at that same corner:
At this year's rally, unfortunately, our people were all on the NORTH side of Hollywood Blvd.,
so none of us got the critical "money shot" (from across the street)
of our LARGE (four foot by eight foot) reproduction of the "Thank You, Hollywood!" billboard.
Perhaps it was taken from in front of Ripleys "Believe It or Not" Museum on the southEAST corner of Hollywood & Highland, or from in front of the "Hollywood Souvenir" store on the southWEST corner. Our sign was on the NORTHEAST corner.
There had to be HUNDREDS of cameras (both professional and AMATUER) on those two corners opposite our billboard on Oscar Day (2/27/05) and certainly at least ONE of them captured such an image. And, with your help, we will find that person. Paging Abraham Zapruder. ;)
So, what do you think?
Will you help us on your quest for the "missing image"?
(We can help make the photographer who took such a picture FAMOUS, if they like or NOT, if they prefer.)Please contact me if you think that you may know someone who can help,
(Note: I will also discreetly keep YOUR name anonymous, if your prefer.)
One of the PRIMARY objectives of this FReep was getting a MASSIVE (four foot by eight foot) full color version of the classic billboard by Citizens United:And now, we want to share Hollywood's Oscar FReep experience with the REST of the world.
from
www.citizensunited.org...in a "front and center" position -- DIRECTLY ACROSS from the Red Carpet arrival area.
We were EXTRAORDINARILY successful in executing that objective. :o)They say that "success has many fathers" -- and yesterday's TREMENDOUS victory was the result of the extraordinary efforts of MANY people...
...but NONE of it would have been possible without that 4' x 8' sign created by DoughtyOne.
It took considerable planning, and the resolution of many almost insurmountable obstacles -- which [in addition to the diligence of Blurblogger] required the intervention of a retired LAPD oficer, and a Captain in the U.S. Army [Special Forces], just back YESTERDAY from his second tour in Iraq ---- plus the quick thinking of the irrepressible Genevieve, and some giant of a man (who is in the process of becoming a U.S. citizen) whom she recruited from the "front lines" ---- but we got DoughtyOne's marvelous creation "front and center" for the WHOLE DAY - from just after noon to 5 pm.NO ONE arriving at the Red Carpet area could avoid seeing it. :o)
Money shot? You been dating Paris Hilton?
It appears that we DID make the Associated Press, from story.news.yahoo.com:Perhaps that Associated Press photographer (Mr. Nick Ut) also took some OTHER pictures, including the one we seek.

Oscar fans gather along Hollywood Blvd. in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005. Fans had to be screened by security authorities around the Kodak Theater during the 77th annual Academy Awards (news - web sites). (AP Photo/Nick Ut)
What would be the best way to contact him -- or the AP -- to find out if he did?
That's their pattern, first initial and last name at ap dot org.
Unfortunately, not a peep from any of 'em about it.
Sorry, RD......I tried!
No mention of it in the L.A. Daily News either.
Money shot? You been dating Paris Hilton?LOL!
What I had in mind was THIS definition, from www.phrases.org.uk:
"...Professional photographers work for days and months to find the 'money shot'. The image that makes the story, and that picture remains in peoples minds. The National Geographic picture of the Afgan Girl was a good example of a real money shot --- one that makes the career of a photographer..."
Unfortunately, not a peep from any of 'em about it.Not to worry. I understand; the MEDIA did not co-operate.Sorry, RD......I tried!
Nevertheless, we WILL find the image that we seek.We should have stationed a SECOND photographer on the south side of the street, but we did not think to do so initially, and by 10 am, it was already TOO LATE to do so.
I know that YOU endeavored valiantly. :o)
Ah, that were a GOOD one. :o)
nut@ap.org That's their pattern, first initial and last name at ap dot org. Thanks, Doc!
I will try that -- soon.
It appears that Mr. Ut has a very POWERFUL portfolio.

From our Oscar FReep in 2003:
And THAT banner was only THREE feet high.
This year's "Thank You, Hollywood!" sign was FOUR feet high."

GOLDBERG'S REPUBLICAN SWIPE
Funnywoman WHOOPIE GOLDBERG has hit back at Republicans gloating about President GEORGE W BUSH's election victory - by sending them a box of chocolates accompanied by cutting letter.
Right-wing group CITIZENS UNITED has been renting billboards all over Hollywood to poke fun at high-profile celebrities who opposed Bush's re-election campaign.
A poster bearing images of Goldberg, MICHAEL MOORE, BARBRA STREISAND, as well as other ardent Democrat celebrities, features the jibe, "Four more years. Thank you, Hollywood!"
Goldberg responded by sending the confectionary with a note to Citizen United's Washington headquarters which reads, "Gentlemen: I didn't realise how little faith you had in your candidate. To give so much power to folks like myself is amazing.
"I thought you all said that the President won because of what he stood for, and now I come to find out that the only reason he got elected was because of people like me. This doesn't say much for your candidate. Enjoy the chocolate."
When staff members confirmed the chocolates had definitely come from Goldbery they immediately ate them with glee.

"Thank God we have a president who is a real global leader, protecting our liberty and security, relentless in his pursuit of justice and not bending to the appeasers," said Republican activist Michael Benjamin, who is considering a run for U.S. Senate against Charles Schumer in 2004.
"The entire world community has said time and again that Saddam Hussein is a danger and that he must be disarmed," said former Jersey City Mayor Bret Schundler. "But it is the United States and the coalition of the willing which has finally been willing to stand up and say, 'What must be done, let it be done now.' "
FYI
Mar 2 1998 U.N. Security Council unanimously endorsed Secretary-General Kofi Annan's deal to open Iraq's presidential palaces to arms inspectors.
Another great moment in UN diplomacy
Funnywoman WHOOPIE GOLDBERG
Funnywoman? We're going to have to agree to disagree on that one.
lol, that's funny :-)
To give so much power to folks like myself is amazing.
Is that a typo? folks?
I think she meant "fools like myself..."
-- but we got DoughtyOne's marvelous creation "front and center" for the WHOLE DAY - from just after noon to 5 pm.We seem to have helped effect the TONE of the evening, from www.libertyfilmfestival.com/libertas:NO ONE arriving at the Red Carpet area could avoid seeing it. :o)
"...What was weirdest about Oscar 2005 was how repressed everyone seemed to be. Did you see the smiles in the crowd when Rock began bashing Bush? Did you hear the applause? This audience WANTED Michael Moore there. They WANTED to hate Bush just one more time, for old times sake. They WANTED to give Gibson one more kick in the ribs ... but they knew they couldnt.Orders have come down! The memos have been sent. We must behave. No outbursts tonight.
Excellent, RonDog! Sorry to miss the fun. I was touring some visitors to LA around about the time y'all were at IHOP. As we drove onto Sunset, one saw the billboard and commented that somehow it seemed satiric, not really "thanking" Hollywood. When I told about it and about y'all's gathering, it was then the visitors discovered that I was a...(gasp)...conservative!
