Gannon a 'Phony,' Kaptur Says - Ex-White House Reporter Spotlighted her 'bin Laden' Remark
The Toledo Blade ^ | Friday, March 4, 2005 | Steve Eder

Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) believes the man who helped thrust her remarks two years ago comparing Osama bin Laden to American revolutionaries into national prominence is nothing more than a "double-agent" and a "phony plant." SNIP

Two years ago Mr. Gannon, born James Guckert, used his seat in the White House press room to put a national spotlight on Miss Kaptur when he asked former press secretary Ari Fleischer why the President had not commented on the "offensive remarks by Democratic Congressman Marcy Kaptur, who likened Osama Bin Laden to our founding fathers?" The question is among dozens posed by Mr. Gannon at the White House under scrutiny since it came to light that commentators have been paid to promote administration policy. "From the first day I opened my mouth there, people knew where I was coming from," Mr. Gannon said during a phone interview with The Blade. "I've never represented myself as anything else. I'm a conservative journalist." SNIP

In a March 1, 2003, article in The Blade, Miss Kaptur explained that revolutionaries used religious passions to "cast off monarchical Britain" with help from the groups like the Green Mountain Boys, a militia organized in Bennington, Vt., in 1770. She continued, "One could say that Osama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped cast off the British crown." SNIP

Mr. Gannon brought the comments up during the White House press briefings on consecutive days - on March 10 and March 11, 2003. Responding to Mr. Gannon, Mr. Fleischer characterized the remarks as "reprehensible," saying he knew of "no basis for anybody to have said that or believe in it." SNIP

Thanks for reminding us of what traitors the Democratic party is comprised of, Rep. Kaptur.

Goodness, they really can't let this tar-baby go.

I hope the WH sees this all for the golden opportunity it really is.

I remember years ago when Kaptur was first elected. Someone donated Disney tickets to her and asked her to find some needy children and give the tickets to them. They provided all. She ended up taking her own family and when asked she stated that she couldn't "find" anyone who needed the tickets.

Sometime it seems like Southern Ohio is a separate state from lake front Ohio. Pretty countryside up there, tho.

Perhaps someone needs to suggest to her that this is yet another Karl Rove conspiracy - or maybe the DUers have already been there. My stomach isn't calm enough to look at the posts over there - and it's too nice a day to ruin.

Seems poor Marcy is still licking her wounds two years after she was exposed .

I don't live far from toledo yet in Michigan. I've heard too much about Kaptur. But then we have Conyers and Dingel here. And let's not forget Stabenow.

I don't know, but something about the name Toledo Blade makes me think they aren't a REAL news organization.

***Nevermind what the bitch actually said, he's not a REAL reporter!***

Okay.
But what exactly is a real reporter in 2005?

So what pray tell is a 'real' reporter.
And who defines it? You? Jason Blair or Mo Dowd at the NY Times? Mary Mapes & Dan Blather at CBS? Eason Jordan of CNN 'fame'?

The Toledo Blade is the major daily in Toledo. For one of the smaller major towns in Ohio, they actually do a pretty good job in news coverage, esepcially at the state level. Not sure of their political leanings as I don't often see their paper on a daily basis, but I do get to see some of the state coverage (not od-ed) and it's usually pretty good.

I don't plan on letting her forget what she said either. I will be writing her a letter later on today describing not only the idiocy of her original comments but also how devoid of intellect and rational thought was her explanation of what she really meant. It's pathetic that people sworn to uphold the Constitution don't even a the slimmest idea of what was being fought for. She deserves many letters letting her know where American's stand

They're not. The Toledo Blade is the outlet for the lunatic rantings of a spoiled rich kid who never grew up, one John Robinson Block.

The fact that she is an America hating moron doesn't matter, just blame the messenger. Come on Ohio, you can do better.

A "real" reporter would not report that kind of news. A "real" reporter would've figured her remarks were none of the public's business. The only job of a "real" reporter is to make her look good and to aid her agenda.

Got it?

Great Comment. One feature I'd love to see FR start is a section called the "Liberal Hall of Shame". It would be a permanent section edited by JR and staffers which would show a photo of the Liberal and a small "Mark Steyn" type description of the evil doer. We could have nominations from the peanut gallery here.

A particular sub-section I would like to see would called "Stupid Liberal Journalists". It would be great to have a continuing and ever growing file to document the criminal and moral lapses of these morons. Your mention of Jayson Blair, Dowd etc make an excellent starting point.

I know posts on these idiots are archived, but I would love to have a permanent, printable file. The only problem would be that with so many to profile we'd probably chew through our total bandwidth!

Ah, a perfect example of my theory, which is:
"The Democates will always tell you what their weakness is by refusing to let it go."

This nitwit reminds everyone of her treachery and then blames the messenger, priceless.

I have enjoyed watching the Left contort itself by trying to establish what kinds of questions a "real" (I think they mean legitimate) reporter should ask.

The Left are so accustomed to being pitched softballs, that when the other team comes up to bat, they cry foul before the first throw.
