"The very assertion that abortion is a constitutional right is, in an of itself, a callous blasphemy"

Well there is the 9th amendment. And I'm not sure if you can really blaspheme against a document.

There was a historical loosening of the grip of government in the early 70's.

You must be one of those Slider fellers from a different dimension where Barry Goldwater won in '64.

Well, I may be a "slider fella" whatever that means. That's ok. At least I'm consistent. I don't like my statists no matter what stripe is on their back.

Poor Mr. Sullivan. He didn't notice that one reason for the President's victory was the voter turn out due to opposition to same sex marriage and the high-handedness of the few who, like him, can't separate themselves from the homosexual agenda of total acceptance of a redefinition of marriage.

We will not kill and sex belongs within a marriage of one man, one woman, for life.

I am grateful for Mr. Sullivan's advocacy for innocent life, but pray for the clearing of his vision on the matter of marriage.

Time Magazine articles are so full of logical fallacies and total stupidity it would take hours to show all their flaws.

This one is typical.

The "gay family" argument is so off-the-wall that it would merit a book of rebuttal.

Maybe we have a misunderstanding here, but I only meant to say that it was a blasphemy against God since we claim that our constitutional rights come from God.

Doctors are regulated by the State (moreso each day). We don't want doctors who practice intentional killing. And we should protect both doctors and mothers from any pressure to act to kill. As well as protecting the life of the child.

It is a fallacy that abortion is private. The elective abortion includes a doctor, one or more nurses or assistants, and all sorts of regulated medical technology. Even "the pill," while not a single medication as implied here, is regulated as a controlled substance by the States and by the United States.

The practice of elective abortion and Mr. Sullivan's advocacy of homosexuality each rely on constantly redefining both "human being" and "family," as well as compromising on the healthiest, best-practice and evidence based sexual environment - that of monogamous marriage between a man and a woman.

The Reid Bill will further Federalize healthcare and healthcare insurance, force Catholic employers who provide insurance to provide contraception, force the people of the States to provide "emergency contraception" without regard to the patient's ability to pay, and increase the false idea that it is acceptable for teens to have sex outside of marriage. It includes the false information that teens who receive education on contraceptives delay sex longer and have fewer partners than teens who receive an abstinence only message. It mandates that doctors teach women that
emergency contraception does not cause an abortion, while defining emergency contraception as,

""(1) The term ‘‘emergency contraception’’ means
a drug, drug regimen, or device that—
(A) is used postcoitally;
(B) prevents pregnancy by delaying ovulation, preventing fertilization of an egg, or **preventing implantation of an egg in a uterus**; and
(C) is approved by the Food and Drug Administration.""

Humans don't have eggs, we have ovums. Ovums do not implant in the uterus, embryos do.

Your point is correct. Everything is regulated these days by the full force of the United States government. That's what I hate. I don't see any reason for licensure of doctors, anymore than I see a reason for licensure of EBay sellers. Sorry if that bothers you. If the statists continue on their mad course of escalating regulations, you will not be able to do a damn thing without permission from a bureaucrat.

I predicted thirty years ago from the government's inception of Medicare, that medicine in America would be destroyed. As a doc, you know how terribly true it is. And equally, once we begin to rob Peter to pay Paul, it was simply a matter of time before the nanny state regulates how many Big Macs you can eat. We're getting close! The single principle I can identify is that if it's an optional pleasure, it will be attacked first, like sex or Big Macs.

Sliders refers to a sci-fi show involving a small group moving between alternative universes.

I don't like my statists no matter what stripe is on their back.

The early '70s involved a HUGE expansion of the federal government (and state government for that matter) with a concurrent erosion of civil liberties including the right to self-defense, who you can hire, how to educate your kids, property rights etc.

It is used to avoid a negative pregnant where the government can't take the fact that something isn't expressly given as a right to mean we don't in fact have that right. The right to privacy would fit in here as well.

No one (especially on here) ever accused the Justices of being smart.

In order to "have fewer abortions" our society would have to change profoundly from Mr. Sullivan's view ... which seems to confer all the responsibility for avoiding conception onto the woman.

If reducing the number of abortions is an important goal, then men must be involved as well.

Excellent point! Agreed.
