The Italians certainly deserve a full and complete explanation. But, the communists and protesters deserve spit, IMHO.

The truth will come out.

Our troops do not take pot shots.

They should be angry at the driver for provoking our troops into opening up on the vehicle in the first place.

Something happened to cause the soldiers to open fire, so far what do we know besides they had failed to provide knowledge to the soldiers of her passing through, they were in an unmarked car speeding towards the checkpoint and failed to yield when they were warned.

What was the Italian "spook" who was killed doing there in the first place?

Will she get a Purple Heart for her shrapnel wound? Maybe she and Kerry can swap war stories.

And it was with macho Italian bravado that the driver of that vehicle was approaching the US checkpoint at high speed, and showed no evidence of slowing down. At this point, none of the checkpoint soldiers had any idea whether the vehicle was maybe loaded with 500 pounds of TNT, and they took precautionary steps to deter its closer approach. Somebody died and others suffered serious wounds, but playing chicken with military checkpoints is counterproductive.

Iraq is still a very dangerous place, and reckons to remain so for some time to come.

Having liven in Italy for several years and returning on vacation frequently, the young left-wing fascist are at the bottom of this. They hate American and all we stand for as we defeated their God Communism. Since this reporter was released by the Arabs (after she faulted the US for the Iraq war) how do we know what she was up to? Why did the car not stop when ordered to do so? One does not try to run up on a check point when the evil devils are using car bombs to kill Americans.

When the car was ordered to stop, why didn't it stop?

A few dozen communist demonstrators

Typical. A few DOZEN commies and the MSM jumps on it.

Hey, it's war. You ignore the rules, - like not heeding the order to stop - and you pay the price. Nuff said.

Giuliana Sgrena

I wish only this disgusting old b*itch had died, just like her terrorist brothers whom she so revered and praised in her Communist rag for 2 years.

It makes my heart sink that such a brave man should die protecting someone so unworthy of his sacrifice. My prayers go out for the family of this fine man. But my most bitter enmity and hopes for a slow and painful recovery go out to this scum of the earth Sgrena, who wrote thousands of words in praise of those who have the blood of our soldiers--and Italian soldiers too--on their hands.

The Italian people should be ashamed of themselves for honoring her in any way. She is a piece of excrement.

Tough sh*t! Speed into a checkpoint and get shot. Seems reasonable to me.

The Italian journalist is LYING!

It was an established checkpoint. The Italians should have known exactly what to do. There was no reason for them to run the checkpoint. Our men are easily recognizable - and surely the men in the car didn't believe we would stop the woman from being rescued.

When all the stories of the event match - except for the journalist - she will be shown for the liar she is. It was reported when they were bargaining for her that she was against the war .. so that will tell you she didn't have any regard for the American military.
