An exuberant crowd of Dan Rather detractors met this afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of the Big Ezy, to celebrate Dan Rathers retirement and to participate in a Jazz Funeral for Liberal Bias in the Media.
The crowd was in a partying mood, as it second-lined to the music of a New Orleans jazz band. Two popular Republican state reps, Steve Scalise and John Labruzzo, wowed the crowd with their Rather comments. Although Rep. Scalise cautioned the crowd that this is just the beginning of the end of liberal bias in the media, the exuberance of the crowd could not be dampened.
There was a contest for the most creative anti-Rather sign, and the winning sign is shown in one of the photos below. The winning sign said, "Memogate Kicked Dan Rather's (picture of a donkey)."

Dan Rather lead with stories of doom, gloom and despair, and ended with "Courage" and his usual "That's the CBS Evening News for this Wednesday..."
Damn - err, Danm -- great pics!
And, on behalf of all of us single male FReepers -- it looked good, too! :-)
I'm so glad I missed it, and all of the other Dan Rather news programs since 1988.
I predicted that Dan would close his show by saying the word "courage" in English and 15 foreign languages. Ha!
You are too kind. My photo-taking ability is not so good, but I did my best.
You did great,he left with the word courage. We left with the word truth.
I know what you mean and I totally agree.
Rather, 73, is returning to full-time reporting for CBSs 60 Minutes broadcasts.

Just another show I never watch. Good grief, what does it take to boot Dan completely from the TV scene?
Love your graphic. I just don't think that "Courage" is the appropriate word to associate with Dan Rather.
I don't watch any network or cable news
Nor do I listen to talk radio.
With the exception of Free Republic Radio
I don't know about anybody else, but I quit watching
Main Stream Right Wing Media
and listening to Main Stream Right Wing Radio
shortly after Nov 3.
I couldn't understand how the so called
Main Stream Right Wing Media
could say things like
"Senator Kerry was gracious in his concession speech..."
"Senator Kerry was so honorable..."
Etc
Can anyone name 1 so called MAIN Stream Right Wing Media
personality
(we know Russert on tv and Imus on radio from the Left have)
that has asked,
in 2005,
these questions?
"Asked Kerry when he will sign Form 180.
(Even though President Bush signed his Form 180)
Or how could Kerry have a top secret clearance,
and access to US intelligence
WITHOUT revealing ALL his military records to the US Senate
Who in the US Senate has seen ALL of Kerry's military records?
Who, in the US Senate, gave him his top secret clearance?
Or why Kerry is still in the US Senate.
This is in violation of
U.S. Constitution Amendment 14 Sec 3
http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.amendmentxiv.html
Or when Kerry will set the record straight
on his false testimony in April 71"
"Make a new plan, Dan"
ROTFLOL!
Great post.
Thanks.
Then they played a long, long medley of those ridiculous metaphors or aphorisms or whatever you call them that he spouts continuously in a vain effort to sound "homespun". Ouch! These are painful enough to listen to one at a time ..... but a whole long string of them all at once just about had me ready to pull my car over into the oncoming traffic.
Well, I'll bet cBS's tribute tonight told the truth at least about one thing .... I'll bet someone said that he did a great job of carrying on Cronkheit's legacy now, didn't they?!
Did you ever notice how happy and outgoing the FReepers (and conservatives in general)appear? Contrast that to pictures of anti American/anti troop/anti everything groups. I love being on the right side.
Just calling your attention to the photos from the Dan Rather "Retirement" Party/Jazz Funeral for Liberal Bias in the Media, since you expressed an interest in this event.
Isn't it amazing that Dan was exceedingly polite to Saddam Hussein, while he was exceedingly rude to George Herbert Walker Bush in 1988. And Dan also thinks Clinton is an honest man. Please!!!! Dan will not be missed.
Secondly....the lady on the far left...is that the grim reaper? cause its just BEGGING to be farked! :)
