PRO-BUSH RESERVISTS KICKED OUT OF UAW PARKING LOT
Michelle Malkin.com ^ | March 10, 2005 06:23 PM | By Michelle Malkin

For years the UAW Solidarity House in Detroit has let Marine reservists park in its lot while the reservists undergo weekend training.

Now, however, WXYZ.com reports that UAW has begun placing some restrictions on reservists' parking privileges:

Marines at nearby Marine Corps Reserve Center say on Tuesday morning, the director of security at the UAW told them that while they support the troops, Marines driving foreign vehicles or sporting a President George Bush bumper sticker were no longer welcome to park there. U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Joe Rutledge told Action News, "We received a phone call from the UAW, who support us by letting us park down at their facility. They called and said they weren’t going to allow or they would turn away some vehicles."

A spokesman for the UAW released a statement to Action News which reads:

"While reservists certainly have the right to drive non-union made vehicles and display bumper stickers touting the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s, that doesn’t mean they have the right to park in a lot owned by members of the UAW."

Real classy.

I grew up in Anderson, Indiana which had 2 major GM plants. General Motors FINALLY had enough of the UAW local and after about 70 years just moved out.

Would that be a Toyota made by UAW workers in California or a Chrysler made in Mexico?

I have access to a GM employee discount - and I still bought a foreign car. The auto unions are utterly out of control.

Go South and see those foreign automobile assembly plants in full swing mode.
Oh yes, forgot to mention that these plants are non union.
By the way, pay and benefits are good.

Presumably a pro-Kerry bumpersticker would be alright?

Scum.

I have no problems with workers uniting for a better wage or working conditions. Thir labor is a comodity that has worth that like anything else in the capitalist system can be nagotiated.

BUT...unions have crossed the line by becoming the lapdogs of the democrat party and joining their left wing Anti-American causes.

Time to choose...your nation at a time of war, or their political affiliation.

I was a member of the UAW back in the 70s. Their only objective is to advance the Union agenda and care little or nothing about the rank and file members.

Death to the Union.

No more so-called American cars for me.
I've had good luck with Camrys, Accords and Maximas.
They're mostly made in the USA, anyway!

Not surprising at all to find the UAW backing AlQaeda and Saddam Hussein ~ it's their taste for plastic shredders or something.

I agree. Just an arm of the DNC.

I believe there is an increasing polarization of the UAW and the members.

Mine's a Volkswagen. Fabulous automobile; good mileage, fun to drive, and extremely reliable. A comparably-equipped car made by one of the Big Three would have cost as much anyways.

My grandpa was an engineer for one of the Detroit automakers. Even back in the 60s and 70s, when he bought a new car he followed it through the assembly line to make sure the workers didn't screw it up. He was a realistic man!

Nowadays "American" cars are made from a lot of parts from all over the world. One thing I find annoying (as someone who does a lot of my own maintenance) is that you have to own two sets of tools, as the vehicles have both metric and SAE fasteners on them.

Oh, and the UAW can go $%@# themselves.

Here's the letter I sent to: 'uawsolidarity@uaw.net'

Dropping Escalade for FX

If its asking too much for you to support our troops, we’ll just send a few more of your jobs overseas.

I will now purchase the Infiniti FX rather than your Escalade.

"That does it...I'm buying a foreign car."

What is a "foreign" car anymore? The big three are in bed with just about all auto manufacturers.

A neighbor of mine bought a Mercury Villager only to have me tell him it is basically a Nissan Quest. The guy bought a "foreign" vehicle and didn`t even know it.

And some vehicles badged as foreign are actually designed by American auto manufacturers.

Be careful what you buy, you never know nowadays.

Been there, done that. I bought a Jeep back when AMC owned the company. I believe the body was made in Canada. You had to have SAE tools for the engine and metric for everything else. Also many parts were farmed out to other auto makers. If you went to a parts place and asked for a clutch for an AMC Jeep, they'd say they didn't have it, but if you said it was for a chevy, it was in the books. Most of the farmed out parts were not cross referenced in the parts books, you just had to learn where the hell the parts came from. I eventually taught that Jeep how to roll over, and play dead.
