That's all I have so far.
The hostage may never write a book. If she does, we will know it when and if ever she decides to make it public. I was just responding to another freeper's comment.
"Cop on the scanner said they'd just confirmed the suspect IS Brian Nichols and he IS in custody the code called was 10-95."

Looks like Tex was #1, by almost a minute. Heh heh, so much for trying to offer compliments... but y'all did good anyway!
Well, as we all know now, he was captured alive after surrendering. I don't see how the cops were able to restrain themselves. It had to be hard.
I feel sorry for any lawyers who have to represent him. I just hope the feds and state go for the death penalty. Crimes like this are especially what the death penalty is for.
Geez...how long you been sleeping? ;o
It depends which your time zone is.... :o)
1. I don't know anything about the possibility that there are "other" laws for Homeland Security "expanded coverage" - I have no idea what you're talking about. A federal officer was killed - I don't see why Homeland Security would need ADDITIONAL laws to cover it. They may have .. but I don't see any reason for it.
2. "deferring to the state for the initial prosecutions"
That does not tell you who has custody of him - it only says who will go first in filing charges. On the TV it was shown that Nichols was taken by the FBI - WHERE HE WAS BOOKED and initially charged with the firearms violations - not because it was the only charge (as you allege), but because it was a felony charge which would give the FBI the right to take Nichols into custody. The formal state, county and federal charges have not been filed yet.
Look: I'm not interested in an "I told you so" - I have no desire to have some kind of contest - who is right and who is wrong. But .. so far you're not doing well in the "right" column. All I'm interested in is conversation.
Trial Monday
Verdict Tuesday
Appeal Wednesday (from Freeper correction)
Punishment(ride the lightning) on Thursday.
What is wrong with that?
It will probably take years for this to come to trial...He will be safely away from the public..but I would bet he will try to harm the guards..He seems to have a real anger against authority.
nada thing! I second that. DOA is what would have been best, but I guess I'm glad they took him into custody the good ole American way.
He's got a friend who has spoke to the news saying he hopes that Nichols gets some psychotherapy to find out what made him change(not verbatim). Give me a break! It's always about blaming someone else or something else. He's OBVIOUSLY got some issues, but let's not blame his killing rampage on them.

The man who police say fatally shot and killed three people, including a judge, and wounded a deputy at the Atlanta courthouse on Friday is a former Lexington resident and Newberry College football player, officials said.
Brian Gene Nichols, 33, played football for Newberry College in the early 1990s. He was arrested on April 18, 1994, and charged with first-degree burglary, Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said. It was his only arrest in S.C., state records show.
SLED Chief Robert Stewart said Nichols has connections in Newberry, Lexington, Richland and Sumter counties. A statewide alert for him had been issued.
In the 1994 burglary case, a police report said Nichols stole a VCR, portable CD player, speakers, compact discs, a watch and 11 cans of Sprite from a Cromer Hall dormitory room. The items were valued at $1,930.
Nichols still had an open 1996 arrest warrant from Newberry stemming from the burglary charge, records show.
Nichols, who had lived in the dorm, had been banned after a series of disciplinary problems, according to the police report.
Former Newberry head coach Mike Taylor would not comment on why Nichols was released and added that Nichols had already been recruited when Taylor came to the team in 1992.
I inherited him, said Taylor, who coaches at North Greenville College. He played for me in 92 and 93 and in the spring of 94, I released him from the team.
A football program from the time period identified Nichols as 6-foot-2 defensive end from Baltimore.
But Henry Shull lived across the street from Nichols and his parents in Lexington for about three years in the mid-1990s. Shull said the family moved from the home about 10 years ago.
I didnt know him, Shull said of Nichols. I talked to his mom and dad some ... His mom and dad was real nice.
At the time of his arrest, Nichols gave his address as 174 Freedom Drive in Lexington. The current resident, Sam Weathers, said he did not know Nichols or his family.
State Law Enforcement Division records list Nichols birthplace as South Carolina, but a booking report from the Newberry County Detention Center shows gave his birthplace as Maryland.
Richland County authorities said Nichols had spent time at a local residence. They would not specify the neighborhood.
Were on the lookout for him, like all other law enforcement officers, Sheriff Leon Lott said.
Flashing interstate signs alerted motorists to watch for the fugitive and the car, a green Honda Accord.

In 1990, he was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, stemming from an incident in a university dining hall, according to court documents. He pleaded guilty to the two lesser charges and the others were dropped.

Anyone else wonder if this sicko delibrately killed, no so much to escape for good but, to avoid the prison population stigma of going down for rape and abusing women?
Just a thought...and I have some others about the statement of the sister in law about Nichols' being a "good person," But this question first:
If Nichols was brought up well, got into college, was a good kid, and then became troublesome --- And ---considering the comments from a student and former coach about his physique: Does anyone have the feeling that he might have started using steroids?
Used improperly, there can be a change of personality, a feeling of supreme power, ability to do anything one wants to do? Some people just have a Jekyl-Hyde response to steroids, I have heard.
Perhaps he kept using steroids? He maintained that feeling of power - and when challenged: Such as a girlfriend leaving him, then the trial - he became overly confident and aggressive?
They are always"such a nice guy" to someone.
Every authority figure he comes in contact with is in danger...They best keep him WELL shackled and in solitary.
Unfortunately, due to his RACE, the likes of Jesse Jackson and Mike Farrell will fall over themselves to come to this guy's defense. When we had a white guy up for execution, anti-death penalty activist Farrell was no where to be found. Last year, when the subject was a black, Farrell and Jesse barnstormed in.
Is there a report stating that he used steriods? If so, has it been confirmed? Is this going to be a steriod made him do it defense?

Nichols was briefly a student at Kutztown University in eastern Pennsylvania. He enrolled in the fall of 1989, made it through his freshman year, then left the university in the fall semester of his sophomore year.
Nick Pergine, who played football with Nichols at Kutztown, said Nichols' massive physical presence and martial arts skills earned him a reputation as someone to be careful around.
"He was a bad dude," Pergine said. "You didn't mess with him."
Such a nice guy../sarcasm
