Jim Quinn, host of the morning talk show "Quinn and Rose in the Morning, on FM 104.9 in Pittsburgh, as well as a number of other ClearChannel affiliates in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, offered an interesting perspective on the murders in Atlanta, the women involved, and the role of political correctness in this entire tragedy.
Quinn posits that, at the beginning of this tragedy is a woman (51 years old, 5' tall, etc.) in a job for which she was not well-suited because of political correctness ("a woman can do anything a man can do"). She was not only placed in that position because of political correctness, but the circumstances in which she found herself - escorting an unbound, civilian-clothed suspect in a violent crime alone - is also the product of political correctness (we cannot prejudice the jury by having the suspect enter the courtroom handcuffed and in an orange suit). As Quinn stated, "she was a woman pretending to be a man."
Conversely, at the end of this tragedy, we find a Christian woman whose husband was brutally murdered behaving "as a woman": nurturing, consoling, cooking, nagging (his words, not mine), etc. and doing so with exceptional bravery and fortitude.
The DA's answer to a question about whether or not a small, female deputy should have been escorting Nichols to the courtroom alone illustrates the fact that the irony of this situation and the influence of political correctness have been lost on the DA: (After a pause, "I believe that a woman can do anything a man can do."
The full commentary can be heard on Quinn's website in the archives for the first hour this morning.
My understanding is that upon entering the courthouse Nichols was in prison garb and handcuffed and was allowed to change into "court clothes", at this point he was transferred to a changing room, the room did not have a slot to unlock the handcuffs so the woman guard had to be in the room with Nichols while he changed, that is where he overtook her and ran unstoppable through the courthouse carrying out his act of killing. The tragedy would not have occurred if a) he was bound and shackled and b) been guarded by a couple of burly men. IMO Nichols would have thought twice about trying to take on two heavyweight men as opposed to a lightweight woman. PC has cost 4 deaths, but the libs must be proud that Nichols was afforded his dignity.
Its worse than that, this woman didn't even qualify to be in law enforcement, she couldn't shoot a qualifying score with her weapon and a passing score had to be fudged to allow her to keep her job. If she had retained her weapon and had to use it, she couldn't hit the target. And at a height of only 5 feet, her physical stature was below the requirements, should there be an altercation. She should have been at a desk shufflin papers instead of escorting desperate convicts.
I have been struck by how ready the MSM has been to continuously point out that his capture was brought about by, "a woman," as though that was a key component in his return him to custody; however, few if any media outlets readily define her as, "a Christian," and try to downplay the role her Christianity played in disarming the fugitive.
Bump & ping
Interesting. I dont think the main problem was her being a woman - I've seen some female gym teachers that couldve handled this guy - rather it was her small staure, and her lack of proficiency with a firearm that seem more important.
I agree with your post, however, due to the "women's movement" the standards have been lowered, >(sarcasm) it's more important to have gender equality than to worry about the safety of others.
Goodness, is Brian Nichols gay?
How did someone 5'tall get hired? Most PD's have a minimum requirement--my PD was 5'6" to get in. There's enough blame in this one to cover many people.
"Goodness, is Brian Nichols gay?"
He was in court to begin with because he'd raped and sodomized a woman.
No way. I am a very strong woman, stronger than most women, yet still not as strong as the average man. This guy was unusually big and strong. You do not know any females who could have handled this man.
Ever seen some of the female bodybuilders nowadays? The gym teacher I was thinking of was an amateur weightlifter who worked at a school a friend of mine taught math at. She was a monster.
A monster, but not a man. Women body builders are all show and no go.
I arm wrestled an NCAA bronze medalist weight lifter and beat her easily. She cried.
Don't forget the facts that:
1) The woman officer followed procedure and locked up her gun before uncuffing the perp. When the perp overpowered her, he just took her keys to get the gun. He was now armed.
2) This whole thing was caught on video - the officers who should have been watching it and protecting the elderly woman officer ... evidently weren't.
3) There was a silent alarm in the judge's chamber. The clerk pushed it to get help. It took 10 minutes for someone to respond - and then, the responder evidently did't take the panic button seriously, because the responder was overpowered by the perp, giving the perp another weapon.
I think I saw this once on the Keystone Kops.
Ok, I stand corrected. She sure as hell looked tough though! :)
I'm quite sure that, once all the facts are out in this case, the Atlanta PD and Gwinnett County SO are going to look like the Keystone Cops. Unfortunately, in this case, people had to really die to make the "comedy".
Please don't call the woman officer "elderly." It makes me feel ancient.
The lessons are there for those willing to see.
