Well the studies on male and female IQ show that their mean IQs are basically equal, but men have greater variation; i.e. more males on both the very low and very high ends of the spectrum.

One of the rather ironic things about the whole Larry Summers fiasco was how his critics misinterpreted, no doubt intentionally by some, what he was saying and the implications of what he was saying. Comments about scientifically proven differences between groups (like men and women) say nothing about individuals. The most intelligent single person in the world might be a woman. The greatest scientific or mathematical mind might belong to a woman. The top-5 might all be women. But for every one of the women in such elite company there will be several men. That is all that Summers was saying -- that since there are more men in the very-high IQ range, therefore there may naturally be more men in professions dependent on a very high IQ, in the same way that there will be more men represented in very low intelligence areas, like prison.
Don't tell that to the DA Paul Howard, he thinks size and physical strength doesn't matter. "It's about the heart of the individual," he says.
