“Little Eichmanns” and “Digital Brownshirts”
National Review ^ | 3/18/05 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 03/18/2005 4:57:56 AM PST by mal

The effort to remove fascists in the Middle East and jump-start democracy, for all its ups and downs, has been opposed not just by principled critics who bristled at tactics and strategy, but also by peculiarly vehement cynics here and abroad — whose disgust was so often in direct proportion to their relative political impotence.

One of their most hackneyed charges, begun almost at the beginning of this war, has been the Bush/America as Hitler/Nazi Germany comparison. True, fast-changing events in the Middle East recently have left many of these hypercritics either embarrassed, discredited — or desperately reinventing themselves into the “I told you so” crowd. But we should not forget these slurs — nor expect them to disappear entirely inasmuch as they reflect a deep sort of self-loathing among Western elites.

I haven't read a whole lot of VDH, but I try to. This may be his best yet. It sums up whats wrong with Liberalism today. His conclusion about the depressing times we live in today also rings with my heart. I am dismayed at what has happened to the opposition. I thought it was bad during Reagans term, but this is worse. I thank GOD that its OUR side which owns most of the guns...

.......

"he simply fell under the influence of Moveon.org and thought it was his duty to remove the Bush/Nazi threat that even U.S. senators and presidential candidates had identified and warned about."

Did anyone catch the "Little Eichmanns" references on this week's South Park episode? :)

Brownshirts were all homosexuals. The hitler youth were the feeding ground for the homosexuals. The Nazi's wanted to destroy society and remake "god" in the Nazi image.

Seems to me the only group doing that today is the leftists with their feminist moralphobia and their efforts to impose homosexual marriage and lower the age of consent.

The whole brownshirt saga...is one that most historians end up painting in black and white. They would prefer to tell the entire brownshirt story in 10 lines, and simply talk about what they did against Jews. What most people miss...is that brownshirts were primarily guys who fit into two categories...either the dienchanted war types who whined about losing...or the gay members who started the entire corp of brownshirts out in Munich. These ruff and ready types...were simply out to do whatever muscle was required and they never worried about the local authorities...because most were connected in some fashion to the brownshirts.

One explanation is simply the ignorance of the icons of our popular culture. A Linda Ronstadt, Garrison Keillor, or Harold Pinter knows nothing much of the encompassing evil of Hitler’s regime

I think this is honestly most of the issue. To the leftist mind set, Hitler = evil and powerful, Bush = evil and powerful, so therefore Bush = Hitler.

Resorting to a Hitler analogy to prove a point is more often than not a sure sign that you've lost the debate.

Wow, when VDH says something, there is just not much more to add.

That said, we must never forget that Hitler was a NATIONAL SOCIALIST. His policies need to be looked at and compared to the DNC/Green platforms. Like the Communist Party USA platform vs the Democrats, the comparisons are disturbingly similar. No wonder Kerry got the support from the World Workers Party and the CPUSA....

Modern leftists and socialists in the world need to be very carefull when calling 'right wingers' (ie, anyone right of Castro, Chavez, or Marx) NAZIs. Like the elitist "journalists", they will find thier beliefs and policies under scrutiny. I know that when the Left's postitions are laid out, it becomes no question who the real National Socialists are....

For the DUers: Hint, it's not Bush or the conservatives... Your glass house is cracking

So, where does that put Soros and Kerry? Both powerfull, and both out to destroy freedom. Or Saddam, the Iranian Mullahs, Kim the Ill.....

Within the leftist mind Soros, a virtually stereotypical "evil" capitalist, and Kerry, a self admitted war criminal, are not evil because they oppose conservatism - this is no different mind you then the left's love for sexual harrasser, and possible rapist, Bill Clinton...

Ohh the joy of 'situational ethics'...

Just the same as the question: "Where are all the human rights groups to help us support Terri?" or "Where was NOW when all these women that Clinton assaulted came forward?" or many other questions...

Of course, groups like Move-On, the DNC, ELF/ALF, PETA, Not in Our Name, etc all have the same ANSWER (pun intended): Follow the money. These groups, full of brainwashed (often violent) robots, would never bite the hand that feeds them.
