..... There are, no doubt, young white men -- and Hispanic men and men of other races and ethnic groups -- who are in prison, in jail or on probation or parole in Baltimore. But there's a difference between them and young black men: It's assumed the nonblack ones have some responsibility for, and control over, their actions.
If that's not a classic, textbook definition of racism, I don't know what to call it. And it's an insidious racism that will, in the long run, hurt the young black men those JPI bleeding hearts think they are helping.
"The system is to blame" is not what these young men need to hear. They need a stern rebuke, some scolding, perhaps a foot up their derrieres and some sage advice about getting their acts together. And they should definitely be reminded that being in jail or in prison is neither a rite of passage nor a cultural imperative for young black men.
But I've overheard that discussion a dozen times if I've heard it once. Two or more young black men in Baltimore -- on a bus, at a bus stop, on the subway, on a corner -- talking about themselves and their friends. Which ones are in jail. Which ones are out. Who did what to get sent up this time.
This is said loudly, so that folks standing nearby can hear it. There's no shame. There's no embarrassment. Going to jail or prison, these young black men figure, is something they're supposed to do.
You'll forgive me if I refuse to blame police, lawmakers, prosecutors, state and city government and judges for this sorry state of affairs. This sounds more like a failure of way too many families to instill proper values in their sons, nephews and cousins......

Spoken like a honkey racist. Don't you know that blacks are not capable of committing crimes. It's that whites purposely make common black behavior illegal to keep them down and lock them up. Besides, since society is so racist, blacks are entitled to do whatever they want because they are so oppressed. I suggest you take some black studies courses so you can be edumacated.

i live in a neighborhood that includes just about everything: immigrants; white and black professionals, blue collar, and service workers; mexican blue collar workers; etc.
the impediment that i see for young black men is their peer group.
if black parents keep them out of these negative peer groups, then the guys do ok.
amazing is that several white neer-do-wells idolize the black neer-do-wells and hang out with them on the streets. none wants to work.
as a former prosecutor, and now in private practice, I have spoken to a goodly number of young black males, both while prosecuting them, and when defending them. And, almost to a man, all of them had the mentality that anything was OK, because "whitey" owed them for past oppression. That since "whitey" enslaved the black man, that "whitey" owed them. So, since "whitey" owed them, then whatever belonged to a "white" man, was owed to a black man, so he could take it if he wanted. Or he could assault or kill the white man because he, the black man, was owed something. That it was OK to sell drugs, because, well, they were owed something. And try as you might, you couldn't reason with them. So many of these young blacks still see themselves as being in slavery. Metaphoric, but enslaved nonetheless. You want to see what the mindset of the young black man is...rent and watch the first season of HBO's "The Wire". Having been involved in major drug investigations in a large black community, that show is the closest to being an accurate depiction of reality as any I have seen.

It may be coincidental but the rise of this attitude seems associated with the spread of black studies programs. These seem designed to promote black victimhood, racial animosity against whites and anti American attitudes.

I do hope this is satire. I am not used to people calling me names. Oh wait . That happens all the time.
Most of these young blacks have never met their fathers. Their mothers have several children with several men. Where are these boys supposed to learn values? The schools are forbidden to talk about values, and I haven't a clue as to what black preachers are talking about these days, but it obviously isn't getting through to the young hoods.
Nanny government has infected many generations.

My Black friends aren't worried about ethnic balance on death row. But then they are all hard working very self responsible people who are raising their families to be the same way.
