Dems Block GOP Efforts in Schiavo Case
WASHINGTON - House Republicans, seeing Congress as a last hope for brain-damaged Terri Schiavo, convened an extraordinary Palm Sunday session to pass legislation aimed at prolonging the Florida woman's life. Democrats refused to allow the measure to go ahead with a vote, forcing Republicans to scramble to bring their members back to Washington.

Republicans were denying that political motivations were behind legislative efforts to reconnect Schiavo's feeding tube.
"I hope we're not ... making this human tragedy a political issue," said Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), R-Ariz. "We've got plenty of other issues that are political in nature for us to fight about."
Leaders of both parties agreed Saturday on legislation that they said would allow Schiavo's feeding tube, which was disconnected Friday afternoon, to be reinserted while federal courts review her case.
But when the House convened Sunday afternoon, Democrats made clear they would not let it pass on a voice vote, requiring the assembly of a quorum for a roll call vote.

Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually bestow upon her your hearts deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her as long as you both shall live?As long as you promise to die quickly when *I* say it's time....... /sarcasm off

What a joke our representatives have become. They are an embarassment to all of us...

Boy, he is a disgrace, isn't he?
By the way where were all these people who were concerned with a woman's last wishes and not intervening in a family when Elian Gonzalez was snatched and sent back to Cuba?

LOL!
President Bush: "I am pleased to announce to our Seniors in the United States that the Social Security funding crisis has ended. Liberal Democrat Senators and House members have proposed legislation to starve to death anyone over 55 years who can't care for themselves."

If Terri were a seal or a whale, they'd be screaming to keep her alive. Pathetic, but true.

I went over to DU to see what they were saying and as usual I was not surprised. One poster said "that Terri's brain is 70% liquid"! Unfriggenbelievable....i'd like to know where they get there information! That would still be 30% more functional brain matter than the average DU a-hole possesses.

Good then. I read the McCain quote in this article, apparently taken out of context.

MCCAIN IS FOR THE BILL TO KEEP TERRI ALIVE.
I have read his entire statement and the AP is selectively quoting it to make him look like he is bashing the conservatives.
For one, he actually is NOT.

I'm so sorry that Jews are represented this way. We're not all like that. Most of us value life.I can sympathize we Roman Catholics have more than our share of the culture of death crowd in Congress as well.

Don't they remember how painful it was to be slowly starved to death?
When money is collected for the starving in Africa, plenty of pictures are shown to illustrate the misery and pain of the suffering people. How is it that African starvation is a point of moral outrage, but starving an American citizen to death is protect by the Florida courts?

Krauthammer also said that he would not want to live as TS is living, and that he has a major problem with Congress sticking its nose in a state issue.
