I hope he takes out the kangaroos in the FLSC and some other judges along the way. The majority of Fla. voters sure as heck fail to do it when called upon. [A bit of sarcasm used]

I think they are trying to find a way to do something about the subpoena from congress.

Bush has to be very careful and he's right. I don't want the judicial branch legislating and I don't want the executive branch stepping into the judiciary.

The Governor of Florida should be doing this. Not the President.

Do you really think Ms. Schiavo will actually survive another 24 to 36 hours?

Terri Schiavo has a will to live that is utterly amazing. This is the third time her husband has tried to have her killed. She's one tough cookie. I only hope she lives long enough to tell us how she got into this position. I suspect that the truth is what Michael Shiavo is attempting to silence bu having her killed.

He was intentional. He was sending a message.

I heard the press conference live. There was something very deliberate in his voice.

There is no basis in the Constitution for President's authority to do this.

absolutely, many of us were talking about that days ago. these same courts suddenly woke up one morning and found some new "right" for Lee Malvo to avoid the death penalty. And someday, they will discover a new right to allow gays to marry.

But back to the point on this - I don't think this is the issue to go to the mats and force a constitutional crisis on; not that is isn't an important issue, but I just don't see it "going all the way".

Right. What it amounts to is that the guilty can't be punished in a cruel and unusual way. But if there's no crime the same rule doesn't apply and they can! But it's the same amendment, and it doesn't say guilty or innocent, prisoner or patient, it says NO ONE.

I agree with you.

He carefully said he'd let the judicial process go on.

He could have stopped there and been safe and among the statements that are currently all over TV & newspapers.

But he DELIBERATELY went on and forcefully spoke: "We look at all options from an EXECUTIVE BRANCH PERSPECTIVE."

He was threatening that the courts are not necessarily the last word!

Anyone with constitutional standing at either the state or national level should do something.

I don't know... but she lasted 6 days before (144 hours?) and I am sure President Bush is updated often on her current status. We are now approaching the beginning of the 6th day (120+ hours).

You can't pardon a person who hasn't been convicted of anything. Duh

Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon, who hadn't been convicted of anything.

Cordially,
