President Bush just stated that he waits for this to go through the judicial process, BUT that he looks at all options from AN EXECUTIVE BRANCH PERSPECTIVE!
Do you mean...
President Bush just stated that he WANTS for this to go through the judicial process, BUT that he WILL look at all options from AN EXECUTIVE BRANCH PERSPECTIVE!
I am hoping this is a good sign!
You can't pardon a person who hasn't been convicted of anything. Duh.
It means that they are searching everything to see if there is a way that he can step in. But remember, he has to make sure he is on firm constitutional footing.
Thank You
Walk the talk, Mr. President. Walk the talk.
I suspect that he could order her arrested as a material witness in an investigation.
Doesn't seem to matter. The courts don't read the Constitution anymore. So whether he does something constitutional or not the courts will say it is not and have her killed.
The title is a direct quotation that I immediately copied down.
No matter how important the life is Terri is, we can not destroy the Constitution. Think of all those young men and women who are putting their lives on the line every single day to uphold that very same Constitution.
any worse than the courts already have.
I think he will put out an order to have her taken into Protective Custody. He probably already has a deadline set and if the courts to not do something by that deadline he will step in. I believe that the next 24 to 36 hours will be very interesting and I believe he will step in if the courts do not.
I'm not sure legally what can be done .. but I'm hoping too
Citing this case as precedent would mean the troops would protect Michael Schiavo and allow the current order to be carried out.
Major Bump
First they rule that states have no right to determin things like whether a 17 year old has a right to murder and live and an 18 year old can die. Then they rule that a state court CAN decide that a disabled woman can be killed because her adulterous husband wants it. They decide that the first ammendment doesn't apply to political speech, but it does apply to flag burning. They decide that terrorists who have been caught in the act of killing and plotting to kill American citizens should be treated well and fed well, but that an American citizen who can not feed herself deserves to starve to death. A court has a right to determine what is and what is not marriage and decide that gender plays no role, but then decides that a man who is living in common law with another woman, and has children by that common law "marriage" can decide the fate of the woman he has abandoned.
How on earth do they expect people to respect the law when there is no commonsense way to understand it?
Our courts are destroying our legal system.
Legal seems to be a moving target. Last month executing 17 year old murderers was legal. Now its cruel and unusual. This month, starving a woman based on a quip while watching a movie is legal. Next month, not giving a murderer more than 1500 calories a day will be cruel and unusual.
Me either -- I am praying the Florida Senate will act and give Jeb the power to do something!
He could take her into protective custody BECAUSE of the denial of food and water by natural means. It would be his duty as the chief executive to prevent a forcible murder in progress.
He could also arrest her, as you say, as a material witness to an investigation.
