WHAT POLITICAL PRICE WILL REPUBLICANS PAY?
Neal Nuze ^ | 4/24/05 | Boortz

Posted on 03/24/2005 6:44:09 PM PST by NotchJohnson

was absolutely astounded yesterday when Florida Governor Jeb Bush held that press conference and talked about the State of Florida taking custody of Terri Schiavo. He presented to the media the opinion of a doctor that Terri Schiavo was not in a persistent vegetative state .. but rather just in some sort of a period of reduced consciousness. This doctor has never seen Terri Schiavo, except on videotape, and he's issuing findings that are completely at odds with doctors who have been personally examining Terri for many months.

Think about this for a moment. Attending physicians conduct their examinations and make their reports. The matter moves into the courts and is adjudicated ... adjudicated extensively. Nineteen state judges, one Federal District Court judge, one Court of Appeals, and three now four trips to the U.S. Supreme Court. Still, politicians aren't happy with the results ... so now the State contemplates using its police power to seize the body of Terri Schiavo so that she can be forced to endure this horrible existence for years to come.

Across America there are thousands of families who have faced similar situations and made their difficult decisions without political interference. There are tens of millions more who have expressed their wishes, both in writing and in words, that they never be kept alive in this manner. Now these people are watching this hideous spectacle of politicians plotting the literal kidnapping of Terri Schiavo. And why? To please a powerful political constituency .. the ant-abortion lobby.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that there are many people out there who, when faced with medical disaster, want to be turned over to politicians to be used as political pawns. I'm wondering if these people will be anxious to keep Republicans in power.

The only thing that'd have an impact on the next election would be for Jeb Bush to go down to the Hospice (with appropriate guard service of course), and go in and give the lady water himself.

Just let one of those local cops try to pull a gun on the Governor ~

That would have an impact.

Is the Bush administration planning on intervening in the hundreds of cases like this that happen each year???

I dunno. Is the alternative to sentence people to death by starvation? People who obviously are not in a deathbed coma?

The media and the left have painted Terri as incapacitated as Karen Quinlan. Karen, who lived for eight years after SHE was taken off artificial respiration to kill her. Oops.

The medical community is still in the stone ages when it comes to the brain. To not err on the side of life in this case is just a tragedy.

The GOP will pay a price....

Yes. Unfortunately EVERY poll says they are paying the price already...

I believe they are getting hit from both sides. Those who think they went to far and those who say they haven't gone far enough.
It's a lose-lose situation.

"What should the GOP do for damage control???"

Don't be ridiculous. The GOP didn't lose anything. What has been shown is that the judiciary is out of control (payback will come for snubbing the Pres., Gov. Senate, House). Terri will be made a martyr. Lines have hardened in stone on judicial appointments. The existence of a pro-death cult has been established. The ramifications will seem subtle, at first, but a line has been crossed.

These people have no shame. Their hearts have been so hardened by their zeal to kill the unborn, killing a helpless women is nothing.

Boortz always refuses to say whether or not he opposes partial birth abortions - so you can guess where his views on that lie. He is pro-death.

"Here is what they should do, nothing. The facts of this case are going to get out and it is going to turn on the Democrats..."

And Democrats ordered her death. Democrat judges will become Democrats seeking re-election. Day after day of this and the resultant joy over Terri's death in the media will not be forgotten by many millions of voters.

Bush stepped deftly away from the media and went around them for his re-election. The GOP practice is to do this from now on. It's called encirclement.

I hope none. At least they did what they thought was right, not eccessarily what the polls say.

I don't recall articles being written as to what price the democrats would pay after Janet Reno's storm troopers took Elian Gonzalez and set fire to the David Koresh compound killing CHILDREN and others. If republicas did that we would still be talked about.

Republicans gained a great deal of rabid fans. Bortz lost at least one listener (yea, I've heard his crap about losing listeners, but from now on he doesn't exist to me).

I sent them a note and told them that this doctor has seen her in person .. and the doctors the court is relying on have NEVER seen her in person.

Boortz is trumpeting the lie that the "family" made this decision.

So we're going to take it out on the republicans? Bull!! That's what the left would hope. When I go to the ballot box the last thing I'm going to do is give the left anymore power. When republicans get in a knock down drag out with the left and they lose I'll expect them to get back up and go at them again. We've been beating the left back for ten years now and it will take time to destroy the 40 years of garbage that's been heaped on this country.
