what's he waiting for
That ten year old boy who tried to bring her water. He is a hero.
Nah. I'll be with Him, I suspect.
Of course, she did it for the dark side and, of course, she sent him back to her brother Fidel. This should show us that they don't back off out of fear of offending somebody no matter how evil their action. Why should our side cower in fear of political repercussions over doing the right thing?
If I remember correctly, wasn't Reno also acting against an order of a state court when she had Elian snatched? Didn't seem to bother her a bit.
I am the hero.
The fool down the block is the hero
10 year old Josh Heldreth is a true hero who is actually acting on his beliefs down in Florida getting arrested trying to take water into Terri Schiavo.
I do not think that dramatic gestures are the right thing to do in this circumstance. I don't have enough trust in the conflicting versions of the events surrounding Terri Schiavo to make a positive judgement about what the right thing to do is.
This article indicates that you think you do know what the right thing is, but you're waiting for someone else to pick up the cause and do something about it.
That's the wrong approach. Don't go looking for a hero. Be the hero.
There's a line from a movie that I really agree with.
"It's not hard to do the right thing, it's hard to know what the right thing is... but once you know what is right, it's hard not to do it." - Ben Kingsley in "The Confession"
Don't look for heros. Be one.
HINT: this is EASTER Weekend....does Greer really want the Pilot role.....
Jeb Bush wants Andrew Jackson's press but doesn't have the conviction to act like Jackson. Typical Republican spinelessness.
Well, you know I want W to step in
No, I am saying that with all this confusion we error toward life.
Allow the guards to put down their weapons, no one gets hurt, we saw it with Elian....we have the people, just not the balls to call them.
Our hero is looking anguished, holding his palms up, shrugging his shoulders, and saying there is nothing he can do as he bows down before his masters, the judges, like a puppy dog who only wonders what he must do next to keep his masters from hitting him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.
I agree, in principle. However, having driven an ambulance for a living for several years and having seen the videos and listened to the experts I'm 99.99% convinced that she isn't alive anymore.
Since I believe that dying is not the worst thing that can happen to someone that .01% of uncertainty isn't enough to make me leave my job, home and family to go intervene in this affair.
If I were even 70-30 unconvinced I would feel compelled to go do something.
That's my point.
If you're convinced, if you want a hero to go "do something," then don't wait for someone else to do it. Go yourself, or stop bitching about it.
Looking for a hero outside yourself is what leads to demagogues and "great leaders" who will take a case like this and spin it into the death of thousands, if not millions.
We don't need that kind of hero. We need more folks like Josh Heldreth. Ordinary folks who take it upon themselves to do what's right, as they see it, not to "be a hero." To do what's right.
...once you know what is right, it's hard not to do it...
Totally irrelevant aside, with a handle like "The Wizard," have you read Rick Cook's "Wizardry" series?
Finally, if you can remember the 60s, particularly as a "hippie," then you didn't really live throught them. I know. I was there. At least I think I was... ;^>
He is not of this world. Remember that at church tomorrow.
A story is told about a doctor that died after a long and successful career.
Upon entering heaven, he approached our Lord and asked,
"Lord, You know I was a physician that believed in 'do no harm' and that I was very active in cancer research. I've often wondered why you never sent anyone with the cure for cancer."
Our Lord replied,
"I did ... 118 times, but they were all aborted'.
Where's our hero?
I'm afraid we'll have to face Our Lord's wrath for the national sin of abortion.
If you want a hero in this case, fly down there and do something. Stop expecting everyone else to be your hero.
Awe! Thanks for posting Lance Corporal Miller! He's been my computer wallpaper for months now, to remind me everyday of why I Thank God I'm an American.
He's home safe and sound. Yep. That's what a Hero looks like, all right! :)
"Don't go looking for a hero. Be the hero."
Excellent! :)
cute talk, but there are only 2 or three people who can step up.....and they, alas, are not coming.
