Schiavo’s father makes emotional appeal

PINELLAS PARK, FL -- Bob Schindler, the father of severely brain-damaged Terri Schiavo, said his daugher is "begging for help," and so is her family.

Now in her 11th day without food or water after her feeding tube was removed under court order on March 18, Schiavo is "failing," he said, but nevertheless "fighting like hell to live."

Although "emaciated," Schiavo is "still communicating," Schindler said, "... And she's responding to me."

Schindler spoke to reporters shortly before 1 p.m. outside the Woodside Hospice, where Schiavo is being cared for.

Several days ago, a family spokesman reported that Terri's mother, Mary Schindler, was so upset at her daughter's appearance that she because physically ill at the bedside. Schiavo's brother, Bobby Schindler, said that her condition was so alarming he was suggesting his parents not go see her.

Bob Schindler said today that he was "scared to death to go in to see her, for fear of what I'd see." But, he said, "she has amazing endurance, what she's been through for this past week. And it's incredible to see how she's acting."

David Gibbs, the family lawyer, had said earlier that Schiavo was past the point that she could have her feeding tube reinserted, but the family disputed it.

Gibbs also said she was receiving morphine. Schindler said he had "a grave concern that they'll expedite the process to kill her with an overdose of morphine."

Legal options seem to have run out for the Schindlers. But Schindler called again upon government leaders and the courts to intervene.

"I plead again that the powers that be don't give up on her," he said. "She has to be saved. She has to be saved. And it can be done. And we plead for her."

Michael Schiavo is NOT on his sign? It must be an error.

No, it's quite correct. Bush, Bush & Greer all qualify for the role of Pontius Pilate, but Michael Schiavo is playing the role of JUDAS.

During WWII American GIs had to march local Germans to newly liberated concentration camps and make them see the dead bodies, and the starving. Why? Because the Germans had, for so long, refused to recognize the horror in which many were complicit, either by action or inaction.

The words of Martin Niemoeller are echoing in the back of my mind every time I think of Terri Shiavo.

I have noticed that some people who thought it was okay to do this to Terri, when they learned the ugly truth, changed their minds. They have believed the media spin about Terri. This one lady at Church thought Terri had been in a coma for 15 years. When I told her the truth, she changed her mind. That's why the polls are skewed and that's why Jeb Bush is going to be in deep dark doo doo when the truth comes out. People will know he was the last to turn his back on Terri. Never forget.

That is Jeb Bush's legacy - He was the last to turn his back on a young healthy disabled woman and let her die from dehydration and starvation.

Sorry. I promise I won't.

You could perhaps have given me a hint, either in these threads or through FR email because I could not remember which one it was. I have now figured out. The link was copied from another poster. I no longer have it or am in possession of the photo.

Again, sorry.

"...but will the State of Florida then have custody of her indefinitely?"

Once the State takes custody, I believe that guardianship would have been taken away from MS. It can then be assigned to Terri's parents. As you know, Terri's parents have stated in no uncertain terms that they are more than willing to take Terri in their custody. Moreover, lots of people are will to help financiall or otherwise, including me.

It's beyond inhumane what is being done to that famiy and our Country by 3 miserable people.

I agree... And it is pure irony that we have a person running this country who claims to be a born-again christian and a compassionate - conservative!!!! And remember, our last election voted in our current leader because of his values!!!!!

I just watched Mark Lunsford on H&C. I can't help but compare their grief. One father had his daughter robbed of her innocence and her life and another father is walking through hot coals to save the life of his daughter. One man will be executed by the State of Florida for taking Jessie's life and one man received the blessing of the State of Florida to take Terri's life.

Jessie never had a chance nor did Terri once Mark decided to be rid of her.

The love of a parent for a child regardless of age or physical condition is the most selfless love of all.

Maybe Jessie will be there to greet Terri when she eneters into heaven.
