Salem, Ore. - A picture of a Marine holding an assault rifle has sparked a wave of controversy at a Salem high school.

The problem began when the Marine's sister brought the picture to McKay High School to post on a classroom bulletin board.

Why not?

They risk their lives for us.

considering that the school mascot is seen carrying a sword

I bet the school admin didn't realize that until it was pointed out to them. That'll be next to go.

Well, I went back and re-read the article and now I understand. The school has a Zero Tolerance policy against weapons, and who's to say that some enraged student wouldn't grab the rifle right off the photo and commence firing. Or that the thing might go off by itself. Or, maybe the Marine in the photo might have a touch of combat fatigue and just cut loose on the student body himself. I think the school administration acted prudently in banning this photo. You can never be too careful these days.

Here in NYC we have actual military and SWAT teams, some with assault weapons, at various points throughout the city and it doesn't seem to have adversely impacted the children -- they are just as stupid as they always have been.

So now we know where you're from! 8^)

Sword? That's only the "tip"of the problem---Ol'Mac there has his complete battle dress on possibly including underwear, and he has his shield which means he expects to take some crap as well as dish it out. So he needs to be completely re-dressed anyway especially considering Salem's playoff record which sucks and would indicate something in pink might be more appropriate. The Richardson chick has no idea what she's started and might be in training for ambassador to Pakiland? Would she hand out wanted posters if they didn't have pics of guns?

If you need a marine, you don't need an unarmed one.

If Jeff Weise's school had had an armed Marine instead of an unarmed security guard they would have needed only one coffin.
The school mascot looks like a fine highland warrior to me, the good principal need to think this one through a little longer

"Maybe I just don't get it, but what is a Marine supposed to be holding?"

NOT a good question to ask of your Gunny!!!

Not unless you want to march around in circles screaming, "This is my rifle, this is my gun..."

Did these dad-blasted imbeciles go through their library and censor all the books, too?

Or were they good little Nazis and they just BURNED the books?

If it were legal to bash their heads in with a baseball bat you still couldn't beat any sense into these idiots.

Separation of school and state sounds better and better. If kids got absolutely no formal education how much worse off could they possibly be.
