Schiavo Kin: Parents Not Wanted at Burial
Guardian ^ | 3/31/05 | MICHAEL RUBINKAM

Associated Press Writer

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Terri Schiavo's ashes will be buried in an undisclosed location near Philadelphia so that her immediate family doesn't show up and turn the burial into a media spectacle, a member of the Schiavo family said Thursday.

``If Mike knew they would come in peace, he would have no problem with it,'' Scott Schiavo, Michael Schiavo's brother, said during an interview at his home.

After an autopsy, Michael Schiavo plans to have his wife's body cremated and her ashes brought to Pennsylvania, where she grew up. Scott Schiavo said the ashes would be buried in a plot left by an aunt and uncle, but the family does not plan on providing the specficic location for the burial - underscoring the bitterness of the dispute.

Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had fought for years to prevent her feeding tube from being removed, and they opposed cremation and wanted her buried in Florida.

Neither Terri Schiavo's parents nor her siblings addressed the issue of her burial in their remarks to reporters in Florida on Thursday. A spiritual adviser to her parents, Paul O'Donnell, said they plan to hold a Roman Catholic Mass without her body sometime next week.

Scott Schiavo said he received a stream of calls Thursday from people denouncing him. On his answering machine was a message from a man from Texas who called the Schiavo family murderers.

Police made visits Thursday to both Scott Schiavo's home and the home of his brother, William, in Philadelphia, as a result of threats to the families.

Scott Schiavo expressed relief that his sister-in-law's ordeal was over, and anger at those who have attacked the Schiavo family.

``This isn't over by a long shot, We're going to get our name right,'' he said. ``The world is going to know who Mike was, they're going to know Mike wasn't a beast.''

At Terri Schiavo's alma mater, Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, workers changed a sign that read ``Terri Schiavo, Class of 1981, We pray that you may live'' to ``We pray that you rest in peace.''

I can see his point about the media circus, but why not HE stay at home and allow those who love her to bury her? His actions are inhumane and demonic. This is about revenge against the in-laws he hates. And control. He's a control freak.

If Michael and the parents were at the funeral, there would be a major media circus, and a fight. That would diishonor Terri's memory. But he's using that as an excuse to torture them even more. I don't think they should be at the same service. Perhaps Michael, if he had any heart or class, would have his own service, then hand the ashes over to the parents for another.

Just your typical low-life POS. Hope Michael is enjoying his shiny, flashy ring that he had made for himself after melting down Terri's. Like I said, just your typical low-life POS. Nothing to see here...just move along.

Absolutely - but he will face his Judge someday - whether he believes he will or not. Then he will really know what Thirst is. Terri was rescued into the arms of Jesus - unless he changes, I don't think he will.

Funerals are not "social occasions".

"It's not too difficult to figure out what he's saying here. Mike's going to write a book."

I'm wondering when a hospice 'insider' - like a nurse is going to write a tell all book about what REALLY happened in that place.

He is evil. To deny them being at the bedside, now not being able to attend her burial. He is the ultimate control freak. Warning you young girls out there - pick your husbands to be cautiously! Your life may depend on it.

"Most families can bury differences at family funerals."

Well, I am dreading my mom's cousin's funeral, even before she dies. She has about 6 months left from her cancer, and both my uncle and his ex-wife should attend. But I am afraid either my uncle will not go, or there will be a fight. They had a real nasty divorce, and his ex will be there with the man she had an affair with for 7 years. The ex shouldn't go, but she will, and my own family will be forced to endure her or not go. We loathe and detest her, and her sneering little adultering new husband (who left his wife and two kids for her. My uncle won't go, but I have to go. I'll just ignore her.

There shouldn't be when a husband kills his wife in cold blood. It makes not difference what American law says. God's law which all Christians must uphold is: thow shalt not kill. He, his family, his lawyer, their judge, the entire judiciary of Florida and the 11th Dist, as well as many sheriffs and cops are guilty before God. So yes, the family's name should go down in infamy.

I'm not suggesting they have to talk or sit in the same pew. However they are her parents for God's sake, and this is the last time they would even have to tolerate each other. I do not think it is at all unreasonable, even with the bad blood flowing, to allow this much - if Michael is so concerned about Terri's wishes, then he should realise it was unlikely that she wouldn't want her parents there.

We haven't agreed on much here, but we do agree on this.

You have to do what you can to ignore her. It's my bet and hope that you will no remember her being there. FWIW, people are on their best behavior at funerals. There are many divorces nowadays, and most funerals don't break out in brawls.

Condolences on your mom. I lost mine too, and I actually envy the few months you have left.

If one of those nurses was to write a really well-written, truthful book, she wouldn't need to worry about money for the rest of her life.

Better yet, why not let the parents have a Catholic service, blessing of the body and then he can have his cremation?
Michael won't do it because he has been using Terri for 15 yrs. to torture the Schindler's and this is his swan song.
