Terri Schiavo Cremated Amid Family Feud

Saturday, April 02, 2005

TAMPA, Fla.  Terri Schiavo's body was cremated Saturday as disagreements continued between her husband and her parents, who were unable to have their own independent expert observe her autopsy.

The cremation was carried out according to a court order issued Tuesday establishing that Michael Schiavo () had the right to make such decisions, said his lawyer, George Felos. He said plans for burying her ashes in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, had not yet been completed.

Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had wanted to bury their daughter in Pinellas County so they could visit her grave.

Terri Schiavo, 41, died Thursday after the removal of the feeding tube that had kept her alive since 1990, when she suffered brain damage that court-appointed doctors determined had placed her in a persistent vegetative state (). Her parents had fought in court to keep her alive, disputing the doctors' opinions and saying there was hope of improvement.

"Her low potassium on collapse is documented, but her extremely HIGH GLUCOSE level suggests other possibilities."

Low potassium impairs glucose metabolism and leads to elevated blood sugar. In more severe potassium deficiency, there can be serious muscle weakness, bone fragility, central nervous system changes, decreased heart rate, and even death. Terri Schiavo's glucose levels upon admission were found to be elevated at just over 300 are high but can hardly be described as extremely high. The elevated glucose finding, coupled with the extremely low potassium level (< 2.0) actually tends to support the eating disorder position rather than suggest "other possibilities"

Michael refuses to tell Terri's loving parents where he placed her ashes.
The SOB probably flushed them down the toilet now that he can't get any more money out of them.

Of course, we'll just ignore the nurses testimony that claimed he may have been shooting her up with insulin to raise her sugar level. The insulin bottles found in the trash just "miraculously appeared" out of no where, I guess.

"...and that neither of them had an autopsy--I think those saying that it is Florida law are wrong."

You are correct. The Florida law grants broad discretionary power to the medical examiner. When someone dies while under the care and attendance of a medical doctor or while a petient in hospital, seldom is an autopsy performed.

I have lost four close relatives in Florida who were cremated. Not one underwent autopsy.

How did Walker hold up on cross exam?

Walker.........A fracture occurs in a single moment of time, and then hopefully it's treated and heals.
10 Whereas other things that give rise to abnormal bone scans may be metabolic, for example, and they're an ongoing process that don't stop. And if that process doesn't stop, the bone scan may be abnormal forever. (In other words it doesn't have to be a trauma event)

Q I think you mentioned that you had no personal recollection of dictating this particular report. Is that right?
A That's correct.
Q And you didn't sign the report?
A I don't see my signature on this copy, no.

Q Okay. Do you have any way of knowing how the compression fracture at L1 occurred?
A No.
Q Is it possible that the abnormalities occurring on the bone scan with respect to the fracture of L1, the compressions fracture of L1 -- could that have occurred when the patient -- or if the patient fell onto the floor from a standing position?
A That's possible.

Q You mentioned that the report indicates multiple bilateral rib abnormalities and that that was not consistent with heterotrophic ossification. Is that right?
A I mentioned that in this deposition, yes, but not in the report.

Q Okay. Were you looking for heterotrophic ossification when you read the bone scan and the radiographs? Do you know?
A I think that's in our mind when we see a rehabilitation patient because we don't know from the history how old the injury was. And, of course, heterotrophic bone is something that occurs particularly in people who are immobilized for long periods of time. So that would be something that we would mention were we to see a typical pattern for that, yes.

Q Okay. The abnormalities in the multiple bilateral ribs, could that have occurred during an attempt at resuscitation by the paramedics or hospital staff?
A A vigorous resuscitation could do that, yes.
Q Do you know Dr. Donald Durrance?
A Yes, I do.
Q Do you know what kind of a physician he is?
A He's a diagnostic radiologist with a specialty in neuroradiology.

Q His report indicates there that his impression is "no evidence of fracture"?

A That would be what it says, yes.
Q What do you understand that to mean?
A It means he didn't see an alteration of the radiographic anatomy that would suggest thatthere was a broken bone there.
Q Are you familiar with Dr. Ricciardello?
A I am.
Q What kind of a physician is he?
A He's also a diagnostic radiologist with a specialty in neuroradiology.
Q And his report indicates, as far as the left knee conclusion, "no acute injury," and right knee conclusion, "no acute injury."
A Correct.
Q Do you have any thoughts on whether or not Dr. Carnahan's affidavit is consistent or inconsistent with your review of the bone scan and radiographic

A ... My response would be that this is outside my area of expertise. So I wouldn't be able to comment on it.

Why should Walker be believed any more than the other who didn't see what he clamed to have seen on a report nobody knows who signed it?

Re the autopsy photos, my first reaction was to post them to this thread...but I couldn't get them to enlarge. Felos sure has strange ideas of what a 'beautiful death' looks like, but if like Felos, one loves death then sure, she's beautifully dead all right. Terri looks beaten, abused and bruised. Starvation and dehydration, the sentence they give you on Florida after your husband has strangled you and you survive.

He wrote a timely report, that is why (vide infra).

What you point to is hearsay about osteoblastic activity (that which causes the bone scan radiograph to have a bright appearance).

The only data (other than the scan, post the url if you have it, please)
is the bone scan report. and THAT is timely thoughtful evidence
based upon the clinical information from the patient at the time.

That was an interesting line of questioning. Could you add what you left out, or should someone else do it for you?

Fred, I can do it, but will not. It is too heavy.

I am sick to the core that Florida let a tin-hat neo-King George III
in black-Mullah robes torture-execute and handicapped woman
for whom the local Bar gave him an awarad for torturing last year.

BREAKING: GOTTA SEE THIS:

BELIEVE IT OR NOT

Clearwater Bar Association 'recognized 'Judge George Greer for his decision to
execute Terri Schindler. They presented the John U. Bird award to the Pinellas-Pasco Circuit judge on May 15, 2004.
This prestigious award, which is the Clearwater bar's highest honor for a judge,
was granted to Judge Greer for the way he has handled himself in the Nazi fashion
(adopted by the Scientologists) of executing by dehydration and starvation while
the victim screams, as in the Terri Schiavo case!

I have a sister who has had an eating disorder for more than twenty years, her weight fluctuates between 10 and 14 stone from one year to the next. A recent diagnosis suggests she is suffering from fibromyalgia. Fortunately for her, she's not married. Poor girl, could have been accused of being bulimic, strangled and sentenced to death by starvation and dehydration!
