I think this battle between good and evil is a lot bigger than most people originally believed.

Last time I checked - it is still a FREE country - even in Florida, sort of - and you ARE ALLOWED TO WALK ANYWHERE YOU LIKE. IF YOU PARKED YOU CAR AND WALKED ACROSS THE STREET AFTER SHOPPING, AND CAME BACK TO FIND IT GONE - IT WAS STOLEN!!! Last time I checked - it is still a FREE country - even in Florida, sort of - and you ARE ALLOWED TO WALK ANYWHERE YOU LIKE. So you can park in my driveway, walk down the street to a friends house, and expect me not to have your car towed????

Can you please inform me how they broke the law.

If that is the case then every time I go to Home Depot and then walk next door to Wam-Marts my car can be towed.

Umh!

Well we just live in a secular world with out moral guide lines of right and wrong.

There are many scum bags who will take advantage of others to make a quick buck.

"If that is the case then every time I go to Home Depot and then walk next door to Wam-Marts my car can be towed."

It's the store's private property. If it isn't shared by Wal Mart, and there's a sign, yeah. They can tow you if they want to.

The article says:
"At the main entrance to the Winn-Dixie on the 66th Street side, there was a "No protest parking please" sign that covered a second sign stating that "unauthorized" vehicles will be towed at owner's expense by Yoho's Towing. Ordinarily a reasonable observer would not consider actual PATRONS of Winn-Dixie as being "unauthorized,"

I'd say it all depends on whether or not the warning sign was actually covered by the "No Protest Parking, Please" sign.

I'd be glad to see the towing company have to refund the $. If tere's a case, I'm sure there will be a group civil suit.

But for the author and protesters to pretend running in and buying something at noon gives them the right to keep their car parked there however long they want, no matter where they go, is just silly.

Yes I can see your point if signs were affixed to the property.

Since we don't know how large the lot was it would be hard to make much noise.

However, if the man who had his car towed had just purchased 140 dollars worth of groceries then he probably has a legit gripe.

His car should not have been towed after a few minutes.

What ever, from what was posted the property owner is still a scumbag because he took advantage of the situation to make a measly buck.

1. It is disingenuous of the author to pretend that they were "Winn Dixie shoppers". For one thing, he noted only 2, one only buying water. For another, you're a shopper while you're shopping - not while you're somewhere else. It's even worse than going into a restaurant, ordering a coke, and keeping the table all day.

I have, on some occasions, gone to a restaurant with my laptop, ordered a cup of coffee, and sat there for quite awhile. I wouldn't do that in a busy restaurant, but when there are tables free, why not? If my coffe cup has been kept full I leave a $2 tip on a $1.50 cup of coffee. Am I a bad person for that?

To be sure, if there were any shortage of parking and someone spent more than 10 minutes or so not in the vicinity of the stores, towing might be justified. But some level of courtesy for shoppers is generally to be expected.

BTW, what ever happened to the K-mart/Sonic parking lot arrests a few years ago, where everyone in a parking lot was arrested for loitering even if they were walking to their cars with newly-purchased merchandise or food?

Oh heavens no, that isn't always bad. I should have been more clear; I only think it's inconsiderate if, like you say, it's busy.

My college years especially were spent studying in booths at the pizza place or the all-night diner by the hotel. They welcomed me and other students - no one was inconvenienced.

I don't remember the Sonic k-mart thing...

yeah, sounds like the lot was big enough, but the manager either got complaints from regular customers, or found a way to cash in.

None of the people I met ever questioned that they were in the wrong, legally. The issue was that we were welcomed by the shops and took up only a small amount of space. This coordinated attack happened without warning and affected this mall and all the areas around it for half a mile, to encompass every business open or closed, every vacant area, every apartment complex, in short all possible parking within maybe 3/4 mile of the area.

The cars targeted were never a nuisance to anyone, most lots and spaces being open regardless. The mall was not exactly a crowded place and the cars parked were nowhere near the businesses.

It all happened at once. It was a directed and intentional effort to keep us all away. That includes apartments where our allies properly sought permission for people to park, and then their rights were overridden by what really looks like a gestapo effort.

So it was decent proper people, truly thinking and being told by others that they were parked properly, regardless of the situation, all being surprised by the cop behind the billboard.

Oh, yes, I directly blame the local political group all beholden to King Greer, the ones who chased down me and held me for half an hour until they could find a reason to hold me. Where you are right technically on property, they were wrong in massive volume and malicious intent.

The effort failed anyway, hardly affected those who wished to stand up for the truth and who saw this as one more of a litany of harassments. It was just a way to soak the money out of us and for them to gloat.

This being Pinellas Park, and a Pinellas Park community watch official vehicle hovering in the center of that area and passing by all the adjacent areas, it was simple. King Greer and the cabal are simply in charge. They have a lock.

I have no doubt the owner of the mall, most likely wishing to be on the winning side would not hesitate to cooperate with them. The animosities ran high, but the employees were simply either neutral, helpful, or supportive of us.

It is important to note that under FL law, if you don't pay the towing company, your car becomes their car.

I am totally disgusted with what happened to Terri, but that doesn't give anyone a "right" to squat for days on private property.

We should keep in mind that this went on for 13 days and built to a crescendo from the 10th day on.

Good cause, worth the $160 to get the car back, but I disagree with blaming private property owners, or the Cops. Furthermore, It's pure fantasy to believe that Judge Greer had anything to do with it. He only facilitates death, not parking issues.

"No, it's about harassing Terri supporters."

Could be. Could be the grocery store and mall mgt felt their customers were being harrassed?

If you decide to move to Florida make sure you take your Living Will and Advance Directives with you. Seriously, I read a post by a person from that area that says they all love Greer there, and if MS is a nurse for the local jail there, wouldn't it stand to reason that the officers have taken sides here, clearly?

If I'm wrong about MS working for the jail there, can someone please correct me, nicely?

I think it's fine to say you're never going to shop there. But you need to tell them why. LEt them know your feelings and they might check into it for you. All politics are local after all...Your "friendly" neighborhood manager would respond better. Remember how CBS got calls from the local outlets?
