A Patriot Died Protecting What Sandy Berger Stole And Clinton Laughs

Posted on 04/02/2005 6:43:39 PM PST by Doctor Raoul

Click here and page down to CAPT JOHN PHILIP CROMWELL.

Please consider the facts surrounding CAPT Cromwell's being awarded the Medal of Honor for sacrificing his life to protect Code Word Classified information in a time of war, thereby putting the Berger guilty plea and hand slap in perspective.

Berger stole Code Word Classified information during a time of war.

CAPT Cromwell gave his life to protect it, while Bill Clinton makes a statement (paraphrasing from memory), "...those of us who know Sandy, we're all laughing about it."

Code Word Classification is above Top Secret. It is SCI. That is what the bastard stole and then "lost". Levels of classification (Confidential, Secret, Top Secret, SCI) are based on how much damage is caused to our national security if the information is compromised. Needless to say, what Berger compromised hurt this country was the worst catagory.

Click here to see a definition on "Code Word/SCI" came from a washingtonmonthly.com forum

Here's the text if you can't link:

To answer (and perhaps beat into the ground) the earlier question about classification (and some of you, I know, know this, but this is important).

Up until now there have been three different levels of classification -- confidential, secret and top secret (there used to be another, even lower one called restricted). The difference between them is supposed to be based on the amount of damage done if disclosed, but that has never been clear and there have been moves to eliminate "top secret" as really being redundant. Also, most military and intellegence officers have a secret clearance, or at least must be clearable at that level. These levels date back in some ways to before WWII.

But the amount of top secret information is enormous. Growing out of WWII security schemes like ULTRA and BIGOT is the scheme usually called Secure Compartmentalized Information or SCI. A code word is assigned to a body of information and a restricted list of persons are specifically clearled to have "special access" to that information. The scheme works hierarchically with a single code word covering a large area of activities (called a compartment), with subsidiary words covering subsets of that information. (Hence the title "code-word" classified.) Also, the technical means used to collect information, or the identity of those who collected it are in separate compartments from the information itself. Someone who knows the details of how a satellite works does not necessarily have access to the information gathered by it. A particular person or agency controls just who is indoctrinated for access to a particular compartment. An example (partially real from the 60's) would have been the designation across the cover sheet of a document:

TOP SECRET UMBRA CLIPPER SPOON NOFORN

This would inform you that this was a top secret document that was restricted from distribution to non-US citizens (NOFORN). "UMBRA" was actually at one time the compartment for all communications intelligence. "CLIPPER" might be a subset of it, such as airborne electronic intercepts, and "SPOON" might have been intercepts from North Korea. Someone who had clearance to "UMBRA CLIPPER SPOON" would not have access to "UMBRA CLIPPER BELL" information about China, and someone with simply "UMBRA CLIPPER" clearance would not have access to either. The technician in the next building might have access to "UMBRA LEAFLET COOKIE" information about just how those airborne surviallance systems work, but would not necessarily have any idea what information had been collected using them.

The identity and related information about CIA officers under non-official cover (NOC) overseas is @#%*^$ sensitive, and is restricted to a very tightly held set of compartments. Information about nuclear and other strategic weapons is similarly restricted, but shoud be in separate compartments. In other words, even if you know what information is gathered, you shoud not necessarily know how or by whom. The classification of NOC information tends to stay highly restricted for quite a while. Even if a field officer becomes an analyst, their NOC is preserved to prevent foreign counterintelligence organizations from noticing that last year's business traveler is now working for the CIA -- and making the logical deduction.

Berger took those stolen documents to his corporate office. Who cleans that office? Certainly not anyone with a security clearance.

Considering he was breaking the law to steal those code word documents, I doubt Berger took the protections necessary to protect our nations security while they were in his office.

Secretary of Defense Cohen, Impeached Bill Clinton, Albright, and long-accepted CODE-level thief

Perhaps the goal is to have America attacked again.
Perhaps the goal is to encourage theft of CODE LEVEL documents.
Perhaps the goal is that morality just isn't ground in the dirt low enough yet.

Prolly illegals clean the office, so it is PC!

Anyway, since he is only losing his security clearance for 3 years, he couldn't have done anything TOO bad, could he?/s

I am sorry that I am being so sarcastic, but there are just those stories that come across FR that makes me scratch my head and go "hmmmm", and this is one of them----it just doesn't make any sense at all that this guy wasn't even forced to go before a committee hearing and be made to account for what he did and why he did it----

The libs would have had a parade of administration employees filing through a congressional hearing to tell what they knew and when they knew it if a Bush Administration official had done this....

I am just at a loss, can't figure it out.

And if all of this is dumped into the lap of the judge, and the judge does what he/she feels like, 180 degrees from the Constitution, then what?

We get the Government that we deserve, Jefferson was certainly right.

What was the JFK quote about intellect in or at (Monticello?) that never had there been such a collection of Intellect gathered in one place with the exception of when Jefferson dined there alone.

IF I'm being old-n-senile, forgive me.

But, isn't this info that was exposed years ago, here at FR??? And no one paid attention? And we were labeled the VRWC out to get the klintler regime?

I would like to know why in the living he** he still HAS a security clearance at all, if he's no longer employed by the government!

The usual protocol is, when you leave a job with a clearance, you are "de-briefed" - I know about this, as I just went through this procedure two days ago, when I retired from a major aerospace contractor.

Why not? The wimpy liberals and Democrats are spitting in the face of our soldiers WHILE they are dying in service to our country. Hell, they wanted to elect a traitor for President.

Scares me that we came so close to having our Chief Executive be a traitorous wuss who hates this country and will gladly sell it to the highest bidder. And to have Teresa as our first later would nauseate any thinking person who remembers what classy first ladies Barbara, Laura and Nancy were. Hildy is another matter but at least she tried to keep her fangs at bay while first lady.
