Boy, do I have a list of questions, too...

I wonder if we're even going to remember them. I KNOW it's not going to matter anymore, right? Or will it?

Hmmmmmmmmmm............

I read the article linked. Pretty amazing. A good friend's parents got heavily involved in Scientology when she was a young teenager; it ruined her entire family and her parents essentially went crazy, after spending huge amounts of money. She was kicked out of the family house at age 15 because she refused to attend any more Scientology sessions.

Her brothers also were forced to get involved and "work" for hours. One is now an alcholic, another is permanently on Prozac.

My point was simply, you can't know the value of human life, in any condition, until you experience it in that state. We're more resilient beings than people can imagine.

A life sustained by feeding tube is still worthy of protection, compassion and love.

I apologize for the tone of my post. I didn't mean to attack you personally. Right now, I'm particularly hostile to the notion that human rights are to be determined by one's ability to feed one's self. We can only learn empathy and compassion by caring for one another when we're at our most vulnerable. There is no such thing as a disposable person, regardless of what their pride tell us to do with them when they're down.

We have an obligation to lift them, not to kill them.

I could not live without prayer. Give us this day our daily bread doesn't just mean physical food.

Pardon me for interrupting, I don't think he understood your response to fatima in post # 51. You spoke to her with sarcasm, right?

Amen!

Remember that it all boils down to the simple good news: God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. It's that simple, despite all our wrangling and fussing.

"Pray unceasingly." And put on the spiritual armor of Ephesians 6.
Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Eph 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Eph 6:15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
Eph 6:16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
Eph 6:17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
Eph 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Eph 6:19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,
Eph 6:20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

I recommend the book "Healing the Culture" for some simple discussion about God and our relationship to Him. The author notes that love is the highest value of people and that the fact that our Creator made us this way probably indicates the nature of God. And, it explains why God had to become Emmanuel, or "God among us."

Here's Dr. Spitzer's website:
http://www.lifeprinciples.net/whatslifeabouttext.html

and the end of a story he tells:

""Remember the story of the people with no elbows? There was a fourth group of people who were watching all of the activity around the table. And as they were watching, they caught a glimpse of the eyes of the suffering people who were sitting across from them. And they noticed a goodness in the eyes of the other. They saw that there was intrinsic dignity, and something of great worth sitting before them. And this understanding moved those people to empathy. And this empathy moved them to compassion. And this compassion moved them to reach out their elbowless arms across the table, pick up the food from one another's plates, and feed each other.

And it was in this selfless act of goodness that the people with no elbows discovered the true meaning behind their suffering...

LOVE.""
