THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND MESSAGES OF SUPPORT FOR LINDA AND THE CORKILL FAMILY
Linda and I really appreciate the large number of personal notes and e-mails received following the loss of our dear friend and Linda's employer Richard Corkill. It has been a comfort in this difficult time. Services were held Wednesday in LaGrange with overflow attendance and a tremendous outpouring of community support. Richard was well loved and will be missed. Linda will remain working in his office for just a few weeks assisting with the process of closing down a solo practice law office.

Council stalls on low-income housing issues (Excerpt, 04/06/2005)

In other business, the Council overwhelmingly supported the idea to formally state their stance on the Trans-Texas Corridor. The corridor, proposed by Gov. Rick Perry, would run from the Red River to the Mexican border and would provide separate roadways for trucks, cars, lightrails and trains. Council members agreed that the corridor would bring more economic development to Denton and were pleased that the North Central Texas Council of Governments asked them for their comments.
"I'm glad that [the North Central Texas Council of Governments] has done this," Denton Mayor Euline Brock said. " I think they're trying to get Denton's voice heard in transportation issues."

Perry touts Trans-Texas pioneers
Gov. Rick Perry on Tuesday touted the Trans-Texas Corridor, a series of toll roads and railroads that will stretch 4,000 miles across the state, to a group of elected Central Texas officials. Perry compared the effort to the tribulations that proponents of the interstate highway and the farm-to-market road systems had faced.
"People around the world are watching us," Perry told the officials, including Austin Mayor Will Wynn and Round Rock Mayor Nyle Maxwell. "States are looking at Texas and saying, 'If it works over there, it's going to change the way the transportation structure is built forever. ' That's what's at stake here."
Perry also said that market forces would control tolls. "Texans have a choice," he said. "They can drive on IH-35," which will remain toll-less. "That is what will stop inappropriate costs."

Houstonian tapped for corridor panel
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle
AUSTIN - The Texas Transportation Commission has appointed Roger Hord, president of the West Houston Association, to the Trans-Texas Corridor Citizens Advisory Committee.
Hord received one of 21 appointments to the new panel at Thursday's commission meeting. The Texas Department of Transportation created the group to assist in developing major transportation and utility corridors the state plans to build in coming decades.
The first corridor envisioned to include separate tollways for cars and trucks with speed limits of up to 85 mph, freight and passenger railroads, utility lines and pipelines is planned along Interstate 35 from Dallas to San Antonio. A future corridor is on the map from the Mexican border through the Houston region and on to northeast Texas and Louisiana or Arkansas, the area for which Interstate 69 has been planned.

Bell County leaders chosen for Trans-Texas committee
April 4, 2005
Central Texas representatives are getting involved in the future of Texas highways. Bell County Commissioner Tim Brown and Temple Mayor pro tem Martha Tyroch were selected to serve on the Trans Texas Corridor Citizen's Advisory Committee.
The Trans-Texas Corridor is a long-term plan to help alleviate congestion on I-35. The 21-member committee will help plan and discuss different aspects of the project.
Representatives say they are glad to give Bell County a voice in the planning.
We are the heart within the State of Texas, Tyroch says. If we don't stand up to the plate and have a say, it will be our fault. It'll be our demise and I'm glad the commission picked two of us from this area."
The committee is made up of representatives from all over the state, including McLennan Community College government professor Roy Walthall.
Trans-Texas Corridor PING!
there's no doubt that perry shoved it through.
you hafta wonder how many of his buds got swiss bank accounts.
in colorado the governor did not shove it through, and citizens hired buses and went to denver to stop it and won.
The trans-texas corridor or the NAFTA corridor is just the northern leg of a hemispheric transportation corridor that is being paid for in part by the US taxpayer. Our own department of transportation (DOT) the EPA and other federal agencies are in these countries, on the taxpayer dime, setting up freeway systems and rail corridors. This is doubly infuriating, in California Gov. Gray Davis declared the era of the freeway was over and no new construction or even basic maintanence money has been spent to keep California moving. Our tax money is literally heading South!

thanks.
i think roads will need to be built, but they should be freeways, not tollroads. raise the gasoline tax to pay for them.
perry turned a large chunk of the income of future texans over to a foreign company, cintra.
cintra was bought out of the 91 riverside freeway because they're crooked.
BTT!!!!!
As far as WHTI is concerned:
Since when does our Constitution empower our transportation minister (Secretary of Transportation) to participate in a super-governmental agency with other transportation ministers. Is there a duly ratified treaty backing this plan?
Kill the corridors bump.

Thanks TSR! RESOLUTION: A law should be passed to prohibit public officials from working for companies like CINTRA or accptiong even "offshore considerations" or "jobs" with those firms.
