It is the hardest, cruelest question in television right now, and the one that no one seems willing to ask for the obvious reasons. But it hangs in midair nonetheless - obvious, intrusive, and uncomfortable: Who will replace Peter Jennings?
The anchor of ABC News' flagship broadcast last week announced that he has lung cancer and will occasionally miss the program as he undergoes chemotherapy starting this week. Nevertheless, Jennings' illness has forced the question that has been forestalled for years. Just exactly who will replace one of the great anchors in TV history?

And barring a miracle in Jennings' case, they will all be gone this year.
(I know that sounds cruel, and I don't wish for the man's demise.)
Network nooze is headed for the tar pits and so is Petah.
