Alliances of gay and straight battle bigotry in high schools

[Westfield, NJ] -- Gay jokes by his high school classmates always troubled Rob Santucci. But when another student said "all gays should be put on a raft and exiled," he decided to take action.

Santucci, a senior at Voorhees Regional High School in Hunterdon County, founded a gay-straight alliance group at his school in September called Students Making Advancements for Respect and Tolerance, or SMART.

...

While common on college campuses, gay-straight alliances at high schools are growing in number, according Joshua Lamont, spokesman for the New York-based Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network.

Lamont said there are at least 106 high school gay-straight alliance organizations in New Jersey, and 24 of those groups were founded in the past year. Nationally, the number of high schools with gay-straight alliance groups has jumped from about 500 five years ago to nearly 3,000 today, he said.

Lamont credits the growth to the recent national debate over legalizing gay marriages and the highly publicized killing in 1998 of Matthew Shepard, a gay Wyoming college student.

...

The Voorhees group meets most Thursday afternoons. At a recent meeting, the group decided to host a movie night and debated the merits of films such as "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Birdcage," "Boys Don't Cry," "Philadelphia" or "The Laramie Project." In the end, "The Laramie Project" -- which sheds light on the murder of Shepard -- won the popular vote.

Hmmmmm ...

How about a different new organization to improve tolerance?
STARS
Students Tolerant of All Religious Students

Or of course if we want to show REAL tolerance how about
STABB
Students Tolerant of All Bible Belivers

Or even better to show REAL tolerance in public schools, how about
STRAPPS
Students Tolerence for Religious And Praying/Prayful Students

To bring this to a close, we must also mention the following if we want the students to show REAL tolerance ...
STOCK
Students Tolerant Of Christian Knowledge

The media obsessed over the Shepard incident partly because it fit in with their usual promotion of the homosexual agenda, but probably partly because they wanted to fire up the Democratic base to go vote in the November 1998 elections.

Of course that also played into the Clinton survival strategy to intimidate the Republicans in Congress. If Clinton hadn't so openly thumbed his nose at Congress after the election, in his response to the Congressional questionnaire, the whole impeachment issue might have been dropped without coming to a vote.

"We advocate a moral value

Please tell me who it is that establishes their moral value. Certainly isn't derived from the Bible. So I must believe that they establish their own idea of moral value which means anyone can have their own set of moral values. In essence, believe in what feels good to them personally. I can see where this country is headed and it isn't a pretty sight.

" That's sexual harassment...you should report it."

Not in today's world - today, reporting it is called bigotry.

OK one more time....Mathew Shepard was not killed for being gay!! This has been widely refuted! These folks writing this article are still clinging to their poster boy!

Actually, straight clubs are forming, as are Truth Out Days complete with parades and T Shirts! The Alliance Defense Fund has promised to represent, free of charge, any student who participates in these truth days and is disciplined for it.

While it's never acceptable to be violent towards anyone, for any reason...

You can rest assured that while that mind-set prevails current trends will continue unhindered. This is not a warning. It is a statement of "realpolitic." If the Shiavo case shows us anything, it shows us "protest" as such, is utterly ineffectual.

The last popular movement for social reform that had a basis in anything other than implied and explicit threat, character assassination, and astroturfing was the civil rights moves of the sixties.

In essence, believe in what feels good to them personally.

That's it in a nutshell.

The difference between "us" and "them" is we like to call for doing what is "good," and they do what they like, and call it good.

It is too bad some of the more conservative documentary makers or even tv-movie makers is unwilling to do an accurate documentation of what exactly happened on that sexcrusing drug deal robbery gone bad.

The homosexuals would have a hissy fit.

The invasion continues and the fight for the hearts and souls of our children never ends. No other type of club with a clear sexual theme would be considered acceptable in high schools but for some reason this is considered "different". Try setting up a swingers club in a highschool or any number of other clubs helping kids become more tollerent of the sexual diversity of others and see how far you get. I home school my kids so they and I don't have to deal with this kind of thing. Its not worth the trouble. Homosexuality and other forms of sexual behavior falling outside Heterosexual monogamy should be considered obscene. Maybe some day our law makers will have enough courage to write an amendment to the consitution defining oscenity in just such a way. If only our founders had known and had did it in the beginning much of the debate over freedom of expression and gay rights activism would've been settled. It would've never gotten out of the closet...but today I doubt that given the courts even such an amendment would be ignored by the courts since judges seem to think they are beyond the law rather than the keepers of it.

Yes, jokes are one thing but threatening to put all gays on a raft is certainly no joke. Apparently, putting everybody on a raft happens a lot in New Jersey and such a threat must be taken seriously. I think all the people who don't take it seriously should be put on a raft, no seriously, a real big raft, a really big raft, I am not kidding!

My goodness! As a strict conservative and constitutional constructionist, I don't see how gay/straight/bi is any business of the schools/government. As long as the kids aren't breaking any rules, who cares?

blackeagle: until one grabbed my arse in the hallway.

Clint N. Suhks: That's sexual harassment...you should report it.

I agree Clint, that is sexual harassment.

And blackeagle, if the school administation does nothing, then you have a good case to sue them for creating a hostile working/learning environment.

Exploiting Matthew Shepard

You know there must be something happening when the New York Times praises ABC News for running "an intellectually brave episode" of the "20/20" show that has angered the homosexual lobby. That means the Times found it convincing, and so did we. In the November 27 show, "20/20" uncovered the truth about the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, widely depicted as a hate crime because he was a homosexual. Almost everything we were told about this murder at the time by ABC, the Times and every other major news organization was FALSE.

Accuracy in Media wrote this piece. Did the main stream liberal media mention it anywhere?

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

More one the "Day of Silence" - AKA as the Indoctrination Into The "Gay" Life Day.

Well, if all the homosexuals and pro-homosexuals shut up on that day, it would be a perfect day to tell the truth with no heckling.

What sickness.

Let DirtyHarryY2K and me know if you want on/off this pinglist.

One poster (what kind of poster, I do not know) recently made the homo-speak comment that normal men are not bothered by homosexual advances. If it makes a man sickened or angry to be accosted by a homo, it means he himself has those desires hidden deep inside. I suppose that would go for women being grabbed or accosted by female homosexuals.

RIIIGHT!

All I can say is (deleted bleeping deleted). Having been accosted twice by homosexuals as a teenager, and not feeling fuzzy and warm or tolerant about them, did not mean I was a homosexual.

In fact, the exact opposite.
